Decatting GTI

I de-catted mine, we just welding a piece of exhaust tubing so had no lambda sensor. It did mean the engine light came on but didn't bother me in the slightest. It felt like it pulled a lot better through the rev range, didn't feel restrictive and definatley didn't feel like it had lost power :)

Never had it rolling roaded before/after so can't comment on bhp changes lol.

Nice one mate! Thats the sort of thing i want to hear about.

What did it do to the sound of it? Were you running a standard exhaust?

Is there anything you can do to stop the EML light coming on?

de catting made mine feel slightly punchier through the gears,

but it was slightly nosier to so sounded faster

no top end differance

and the light will come on,not a problem if youve got vag-com

u just keep turning it off

i bined mine and put the cat back in, tbh it was a waste of 80 quid

I had a standard exhaust but had the middle box taken out too! Made it raspy after 3k but not ott, not too loud either unless you gave it some stick! :)

So say doing a steady 60 with your foot tickling the throttle and sounded pretty quiet. Hope that helps a little...

Is not having a cat an automatic fail on an MOT, regardless of whether it passes the emissions test or not?

From speaking to Mark and Dan on here i get the impression you dont need a CAT to pass an mot, its all based on emissions. Dan and Mark have both had decats (sport & gti) and past mot's

Ive been driving for 4 years. Every car i've every owned i have removed the cat.

Escort GTI

Saxo VTS

Rado VR6

MR2

Now Lupo GTI

I've been pulled loads, but never has a cat even been been mentioned. Most cops dont know their arse from their elbow anyway!

Decat it is!!!!

I just wanted to make sure it wouldnt run excessively rich/lean due to the poor lambda readings.

From what i gather, the light is there just to say, "the cat isn't working properly", and it goes no deeper than this with regards to the actual running of the car.

Fingers crossed! Getting a race manifold/decat/straight through centre section/standard back box.

FYI on Lamda

On my previous motors ive always used a motorsports cat 100/200 cell ive noticed on my astra the Lamda sensor played up therefore placing my EML on which put the astra into limp mode on Dianostic showed it was running lean replaced sensor all was fine again.

so if peeps are thinking of decat or running decat's its worth plumbing in the sensor back in to stop worst case enginge running lean and causing Major engine damage as my mates Z20let on a track day to lean 3rd cylinder disintegrated.
