AndyW
My first 10,000 mile 'check up' service was under £100 as far as I can remember. The next one is more, forget how much. If you want to know exactly how much each service is going to cost you pop into the dealer, they have a board with all the costs. As for problems, usual little wonderfull vw niggles. Theres some issues with certain cars and the finish of the paint, but I think most manufacturers suffer from that now and again. Other people who've had problems will fill in the blanks as I haven't had a problem with mine since I had it from new in March.Welcome to the forum. DanGTI
from what ive heard and found myself so far problems with GTi's include....electric windows with a mind of their own, gearboxes that are crap in reverse or dont engage properly, dodgy paint with rear bumper / spoiler, usual mysterious dashboard rattle or squeak and they come with ***** tyres as standard....anyone else? Loopy Lupo
as mentioned watch for paintwork, they squeek sometimes in reverse (back discs/calipers - nowt serious).....as mentioned normal run of the mill stuff which you can expect from most manufacturers really...servicing is pretty much run of the mill - better off taking to vw specialist after warranty expires though.....they are fab little cars! DanGTI
btw what do u need to do to keep your warranty....is it the 10k service and a 12month service or just whichevers first?
Loopy Lupo
i think it's whichever comes first mate. on my first gti i just took it in as soon as the service light came on on the dash.

I thought I'd get it serviced again come a years time in March, but not having my manual (or car!) handy now I can't remember when the one after is. DanGTI
would have thought if u clocked 10k in about 6 months, itd probably hit 20k before the 12 months comes round?

Its currently sitting in a garage somewhere and my dad uses it once a week or so, if hes closing in on 20k I'll be a bit narked!
Adam
another problem is dodgy sensors(reading other peopls posts, it looks to to be the lambda sensors in the exhaust), which cause the engine management light to come on, just double check it isnt on when you get in the car. its nothing serious just a bit of a ball ache and its only happened to a handful of cars on this site (including mine)
