Crusoe
I hate the handling, the power steering's horrible and the [b:post_uid0]seats cripple me within a very few miles. [/b:post_uid0] style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> He's obviously such a lard ass that he puts too much weight over the right front and spoils the tidy (if slightly softly sprung and spongy) handling that the rest of us enjoy, might explain the lack of performance too style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />p

Blue Loop
Had a demo in the Lupo gti version this morning, and I've come to the conclusion that the Lupo is a lost cause ... it's horrible even with more horsepowerAnd this is coming from a Smart Car Driver? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
blackbird
Children children ... !I have more than a few years on most of you by the sound of it ... raced GSX1100 Katana Suzukis, rallied home made TR8.I would not be seen dead in anything made by the like of Citroen or Renault and would be embarassed to drive anything that had a cherry bomb exhaust! At well over 6'4" and 16st most of my friends don't call me lard arsed, just big ... and Lupos are cramped whereas my Smart is roomy, comfortable and fun.I'm a little tired with the Lupo which has been nothing but trouble from brand new ... it won't even go into reverse first time(!) and baulks going into 6th EVERY time. It's been looked at by the local VW specialist quite a few times now and he says "they all do that sir" ... well how crap is that??At 86hp and 118bhp/ton my smart goes and stops well enough to keep me interested ... you lot are into modding, you would LOVE smarts.Remove your blinkers and have fun.ps I'll grant you that smarts have w*nky names, ever been into a shop and asked for a part for your 'passion' ... embarassing or what? Slyclone
Hi folks, new to your forum today.Could do with some ideas to transform our slow, ill handling, lard ar*ed Lupo 1.4, this has to be one of the most unrewarding cars to drive - ever!Anyway, we're stuck with it, so help!Lard arsed Lupo 1.4??? ummm Hang on? ??? I'm a little tired with the Lupo which has been nothing but trouble from brand new ... it won't even go into reverse first time(!) and baulks going into 6th EVERY time.baulks going into 6th EVERY time??Do you see where Im going? 1.4...6th gear? did they make a 6 speed 1.4 75bhp Lupo? Coz if they did why didnt they make my 100bhp model with a 6 speed box?
Blue Loop
ever been into a shop and asked for a part for your 'passion' ... embarassing or what?Yeah, I actually have been to shops and asked about stuff for a Lupo. They never have anything in stock tho. Anyway, why should i be embarassed for asking about parts for Lupos?? I'd be more embarassed being seen in a Smart. In fact I drove a Smart at 80kph and it felt scary being so cramped and small. My Lupo at 170kph felt way safer. (Won't talk about how the GTI felt at more than that style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> )I agree with Slyclone 6 geared 1.4's ???? nahMy last contribution to this post will be that we've had a couple of Smart owners in this forum trying to take the piss out of our cars, while we've never been into a Smart car forum to take the piss, guys are you embarrased or is it just envy? blackbird
6th gear ... sorry folks, I'm just used to the smart. The Lupo baulks into reverse and 5th, the sign of a badly designed car if you ask me.Not sure how you found a smart cramped - I'm honey monster dimensions and have no problems at all.Mine tops out at a shade over 180km/hr so not that shabby for an 8'2" car and shod with 175/50x15 on the front and 205/45x15 on the back ... it's very stable. If you look back at the start of this thread you'll see that I was asking for advice on improving a car that I own!I'm not happy with the steering/handling after having forked out hard earned cash so I'm not taking the piss and I'm not jealous because I have one !!! beer monsta
Must say - I test drove a smart and found it cramped, and I am only 6'1ish and about 19stone, but found the drive pretty poor - still love the car though.DId you go to the concept show with the smart? Erik@aat
I bet the Lupo turns in better than the TR8 style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

beer monsta
No luck at all.Is what I would love is a career change into the Automotive field so that I can work with stuff I love (either that or get a permit for my lap dance club idea). Crusoe
If you need anyone to interview girls to help you get your project off the ground style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Not many well paying jobs in the automotive industry though, even some of the best jobs (had a mate at uni who did a summer placement with Ferarri) hardly pay enough, most do it cause they love the job. ??? beer monsta
Yeah, well I have earnt a fortune in the last 5 years and have very little to show for it (apart from a couple of houses) so earning less is probably a good thing. As for the lap dance club, having issues with a licence for the venue. Crusoe
I'd offer my front room ti get it started style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Are you serious about a club, should we expect long stringfellow locks to follow style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
beer monsta
nah - no long locks for me, I'll stay with the No 1 gently trimmed look.Have been looking intot he feasibility of a club, but council in the local area are not in favour of that type of establishment. Crusoe
Sounds like a good venue for the next clublupo meet though, we'd all get VIP passes of course style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Not the sort of thing you'd really want on your own door step though, shady blokes in stained trench coats style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Council has a point, just need to find the right location. beer monsta
well it is the right location, miles from any housing, in run down 'clubbing' area of milton keynes near the ice rink - good place, out of main drag, but near enough to be viable. Poobah
To be honest l have to kind of agree that a standard Lupo's suspension/handling is a little wayward in standard form. I found my Gti to have a harsh ride but with way too much body roll (especially the rear). This is obviously due to the car being designed for a multitude of markets and countrys so they have to cater for everyone. Just fitted coilovers and have to say that its now an excellent handling car (I even think its good when l used to have a westfield which was great!)To be honest the lupo has many faults (many of the minor) but its whatgives the car character and lets face it owning a hot VW makes you feel like part of a community rather than just buying a piece of automotive jewellery like a smart. I mean l see VW drivers all over the place and they never fail to acknowledge me and vice versa which makes owning a loop all the better. Just feel our loops and other vw's have a bit more substance than other alternatives (cough saxo smart corsa cough)Chris
lupy lou
im very sorry to here that u r unhappy wiv ur lupo. im also quite annoyed that u r taking the hand out ov ur lupo 1.4. i 2 have a 75bhp luper i find it very rewarding to drive, i had her doing 120mph going up a hill last weekend(and she wasnt flat) and she handels really well, and may i add that i have not done nethin to my lupo power wise.they r supposed to do 106mph tops, just be thankful that u dont drive a 1litre, if the power of ur 1.4 is getting to u, sorry to all the 1litre drivers out there. I think lupos r great fun and lovely to drive, im sorry that u dont have the same view.u make us 1.4 drivers look really bad!but its just ur luper that is a lard ass!sorry, had to reply to ur topic, as i dont agree wiv wot u were saying about 1.4 lupos, i hope ur lupo hasnt put u off buying another 1 in the future! DanGTI
I have to laugh when I see a person that drives a smart car criticise a Lupo Gti or even the 1.4....is a smart car even classed as a real car? they have those dodgy bicycle wheels at the front and look like my 3 year old neices Tomy 'my first car'.....(sorry, just my humble opinion).....On the other hand I can understand that sometimes you just get a duff motor where nothing works properly and its a constant headache, Im sure you get this with most cars......Anyway, that probably wasnt the best way to intoduce yourself to a lupo website....
