mk2
What do you mean by induction kit? You can gas flow it (see how to). Or convert it into a regular 4 pot 1.9 TDI. Or do what @battlebus did and convert the regular 1.7 into a 1.7 TDI. You even keep the same engine number then, for insurance purposes, with all mods being genuine vdub; looks completely OEM. Weakness is the gearbox. Will need rebuilding every 30k miles or so, as the tiny bearings wont like it. You also need to remap the ECU. Overall cost, about £2k finished. But then modding any car properly nowadays costs £1500+.
Skezza
He wants to fit an aftermarket air filter. Honestly? They're all a bit naff mate. Plus the SDI has it's OEM filter located right down the front end to ensure it gets nice cool air. Naturally you'll be sucking in naff warm air unless you plumb it in a similar way. battlebus
Yup, I’d stick to oe. I have and as above have added boost to the little asthmatic sdi so it’a supplying plenty of air.

JamieV
What the best air filter to get?
mk2
Completely standard. Just change it more often for max air flow and clean emissions (like every 5000). The OEM filter is spec'd to work just fine on engines up to 3.2L. Our's is only 1.7L.
