Jimm
Looking to replace the tweeters in my Lupo, and the speakers in the two doors. I came across a set of SPL QM265-7p and while most people aren't fans, they didn't cost me anything so I'll be using them!I've taken the panel off and I know I need to drill through the rivets. It's the fitting of the speakers that I'm not sure about. They're 6.5" and I know I need to either make an adaptor or buy one. The Halfords near me has these in stock:http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/sound-system-accessories/autoleads-speaker-adaptors-for-vw-golf-sak3101#tab1Will they do, or should I wait for delivery and use these:http://caraudiosecurity.com/sak-3106-volkswagen-lupoI know I'll also need some U-Nuts to fix them in. Am I right here, or is there anything else I'm missing? Cheers.
stator
You might find the halfords one is too deep to fit, see the threads below:http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?/topic/90834-lexy-my-red-14-s-lupo/http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?/topic/8062-how-to-install-aftermarket-front-speakers/http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?/topic/77547-new-speakers-foul-door-cards/You can always try and bodge something yourself. Depending on the speakers you could just fix them straight to the metal door frame, using some sort of cushioning in between, like rubber draft excluder

Looking at that first thread the adaptors he bought seem to be the size of the Halfords ones, so I don't think they'll do. What about the Autoleads ones? I can't tell their depth from the image on the website. My Lupo is a 2001 1.0 so I don't know if it's any different to the 1.4 in the threads mentioned. I'd rather not make up an MDF one like some people have done, I'd imagine it'd be easier just to buy one and trim it if needed.
stator
Well I've never had those adapters myself but it looks like it should fit and it does say it's for the Lupo, so should work. There are no differences in the door speakers for the standard models. There might be for GTI or 3L.

Dblock
Should have bought pre made mdf rings. They fit right on and don't rattle like the plastic ones.

Jimm
Ebay. Just buy 6.5" ones and your good to go. What type of speakers?SPL QM265-7p. Haven't heard great things about them but got them for free and they sound so much better than the stock speakers so I'm not complaining!Make sure you consider where the crossover will go if you replace the tweeters. It seems as though my tweeters aren't going to fit in the compartment which holds the stock ones. I imagine I'll have to disconnect them, drill though them and then connect the new ones up through the entire compartment and stick them on top. They're flat on the bottom and came with some double-sided sticky pads so I'm assuming that's what they're intended for. Can't see how they'll fit otherwise. Dblock
Your stock speakers must have blown unless amping them your getting the same crappy signal from the head unit. Lupo speakers are very good.

stator
Have you tried taking the new tweeters apart? The ones I bought you could take out of their metal casing, then take off the plastic casing and what was left would fit in the OEM tweeter container nicely

Lupo speakers are very good.I have replaced the head unit too. Did that ages ago.I noticed while replacing the speaker on the passenger's door that it had been replaced before with another stock speaker. They were never good for me so it's possible they were in bad nick.Have you tried taking the new tweeters apart? They're quite compact.
