Will Cheyney
Could someone guide me on how to change the standard Lupo GTI brake lines (front and rear, if different). I stupidly broke one off the rear caliper my mistake and thought I could use this as an opportunity to upgrade to braided lines all round.I couldn't see an obvious way to detach the rubber hose from the metal line (whole part seen in this picture). Thanks all! Edited January 26, 2015 by Will Cheyney
Silver!
Rear beam to calliper is manufactured as one piece. So if you buy a braided set, you will get four pieces in a kit. 2 front and 2 rear: chasis to beam. beam to calliper: Either use the standard VW item, or get some made up. Will Cheyney
Thanks Ray.I've been looking at a set of these. 2 front, 2 rear.http://www.brake-lines.co.uk/hel-brake-lines-for-volkswagen-lupo-1.6-gti-2000.htmlAre you saying I'd have to use the existing line? How would the hoses attach? You can tell I've not done this before!
Silver!
Yes, that is the kit I bought. There are two lines on the rear on each side: Chassis to beam; which you get in that kit Beam to calliper; which are copper pipe\rubber bonded. as I said, you will either need to use OE or get some custom made. I have OE with the HEL kit on mine and the braking is immense: Brembo G60 discs up front matching Brembo discs for the Lupo GTI on rear Tarox Strada pads all round Motul 5.1DOT fluid I paid someone to change mine, but there is a connection. Will Cheyney
Brilliant - massive help. It's the beam to caliper one that I've broken. So, I need to replace this with an OE one and use the HEL hose for the connection to the chassis to complete the upgrade. Shame there's always going to be some rubber present in the set up. Edited January 26, 2015 by Will Cheyney
Silver!
It is. HEL reckon the OE ones are braided anyhow hence why they don't make it for the kit.But whilst they are stiffer than normal, Foxy cut his open to find it is not braided. You could get one made up by a "brake pipe maker"; Foxy made his own 'cause he had the flange kit. James_VW
Think I've read some where that the beam to calliper can be made from copper pipe and golf mk2/3 braided line's? Not to sure on this though!
Rich
kunifer pipe, then a nipple to connect to mk2 golf mk4 caliper conversion hoses.
Silver!
My VW Specialist thought of that as I bought the MK2\Mk4 conversion pipes, but he said he would need to fabricate a mount to hold it.
Rich
Yup, but fabricating a mount is simple. You can even use two jubliee clips to hold a mk2 one in place if you want to get functional/pikey.
Will Cheyney
Just for the record, a new brake line from VW is £38.
Rich
£14 at ecp if you buy a mk4 golf one and just bend it a little.
