  1. Excellent, looks like a fun time was had. Were you braking hard in the third picture down, looks like the fuel flap is opening. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  2. 17's border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" />
  3. I have always noticed this. I do quite a lot of motorway miles as well and seem to suffer the usual "BMW, Merc, Audi" owners who tailgate. Its funny pulling over at 80 then when they get level dropping them a few car lengths with a burst of throttle. In town I just pull over and let racers go, I wont speed in built up areas and certainly dont want them crashing in to me with some erratic manouver. On the right roads (if there are such roads) I prefer to have fun with cars a little faster like M3s, Subarus and Boxsters. Probably never going to win but as a car enthousiast I like seeing these cars actually driven a little rather than sat in traffic. I do agree with a previous comment that the Gti does have a bit of a "presence" many other hot hatches dont have which makes the Gti a bit of a target for others.
  4. Looks top dollar. Excellent work, just make sure you keep it that low...no highering it again. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  5. It is abit of a treck for you but Mike at MBE and Mark at Electromec will do you a top job if you get really stuck.

  7. When I had my Mini (as in proper Mini not BMW thing) I used to leave doors and bonnet open at shows, a bit like we do at E38 to be honest. I would not even take my car to a Max Power type show and as this thread shows...with good reason too! The Ford RS, Mini and VW shows are so much more relaxed. People dont bitch about whose car is better all the time, everyone respects the cars and the atmosphere is better. Part of being in the VW club I suppose.
  8. Tuesday 10th April on Knowle high street about 5pm. I was 2 cars back in my Gti. You went up towards the M42 and I turned off in to a housing estate.
  9. Last time I took a car to this show was in 2002 when it was held at Doncastor. My BMW got attempted broken into and although the pikey's didn't get in they caused lots of damage trying. Never taken a car to the show since, glad I did not go this weekend too.
  10. I love the cabbie. As many have already said, the colour is stunning. It was this car that made me order my Schmidts so thankyou for that! I am also shocked at how good the paint is for the original lick considering the paint has been on so many years. Just shows that if you look after an old dub it will certainly last. How many Mark 3 Escorts and Mark 2 Astra do you see that are still on their original paint and looking tidy eh. Well done for keeping the car in use and in such fine form.
  11. Yeah mine slants as well. Not noticable with cover on but very obvious with cover off.
  12. 34 litres is near enough 7.5 gallons (uk). I can empty my tank in anywhere between 140 and 240 miles depending on how I drive and what sort of roads I am on (town miles or steady motorway miles). 2 weeks ago my light came on in Stamford. Put £10 of fuel in (no Shell available) and managed to get to Newark before the light came on again. About 40 miles on £10, scary economy when you hurry eh.
  13. Oh no, not another VW disaster bud. Was this gearbox related as a following on from the previous problems? You need to buy a Civic mate, surely that wont break on you style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  14. You can never have too many sets of wheels when you are a wheel whore mate. Mine are supposed to be here this week so I am blady excited. I am half way through moving and not heard anymore on exhaust. Good thing is my new house is not far from the exhaust place which makes it easier.
  15. Tom, you are "the good at choosing wheels" god. 4 different sets and all of them look great. Sold the RH's but couldn't bear to have less than 3 sets eh. I think the Compo's are my personal favourite but the RM's still look fantastic
  16. I do about 2000 miles a month minimum soon to go up to 3000 miles a month. Luckily I have 2 cars so I can keep the mileage on the Gti a bit lower as I did 60,000 miles in it in the first 3 years.
  17. Only just seen this topic. 2 German Gti's both giving you headache. 2 french mules both working fine. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> *My mate at work just sold his T reg Megane coupe 2.0 (clio Williams engine) that was running a treat and bought a newish Celica T-sport.....which has been back to the garage every week since he bought it. He told me he did it as he wanted a peace of mind as he was moving away from French cars. Maybe they are good.
  18. Treat, my Gti doesn't have one! Sorry that didn't answer your question did it.
  19. Twisty Hi stranger, been a while! G60 discs are indeed 280 x 22mm. I have used then for the last 4 years with no problems at all. I use MK3 VR6 pads as well as they are thicker than the Mk2 16v Gti pads most people use. Never seen 280 x 25mm about.
  20. Same reason as Mitch in that it is a near as I can get to a modern equivalent of a MK1 Gti. Favourite part has to be the ITB's (well their noise)...though they are not actually standard.
  21. I am going to stick up for Noddy because I also paid a small fortune for a Motec so feel I should join his team...lol Yes it was expensive, it looks nice but it is hidden on my car so its looks are pointless to me...errr...yes...no other points to say. Oh yes I have, I got my car working really quite quickly using the Motec compared to you with Megasquirt Tigz. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Only joking buddy.
  22. What, as in something different or because you need to replace it? Twisty-b-road on here has done the TT filler cap (and therefore removed the flap) and his car looks mighty fine for having it done.
  23. I am going to be a little controversial now. With the work I have done to get my 17's on and remain quite low I think that I could possibly get 18's on my car. Would have to have really low profile tyres, chose the offset carefully and raise the rideheight but they would go on I think. Would be horrid to drive though and look mighty silly.
  24. I would be pretty shocked if H&R dont do 4x100 to 5x112 adaptors.
  25. Noddy that ECU is the daddy. Same as I have on mine, controls the world and really small too. Data logging is useful for fault finding when you get started on the mapping.
