  1. My sport cut out whilst travelling across Rochester bridge at about 60mph (had my foot off the accelerator), turned out to be the breather pipe which had a bend in it, stopping it from err breathing I also had a problem a few months back where my car cut out a few times battery light etc came on and it turned out to be the throttle body just needing a clean, my car ran much better afterwards as well... Good luck!
  2. haha fair enough buddy! I would definately get a second opinion from someone you can trust though, the mechanic could be right but its a pricey thing to get wrong... I would say its probably the crank sensor to be honest but if hes right and theres been some dodgy tampering with the ECU wiring etc then i suppose it is a possibility! Costly though unfortunately!
  3. To be honest mate if this guy is a friend of your dad's he should be able to sort this without the need to rip you off! If its the ECU you can probably obtain one from ebay from a car someone is breaking? (Could be wrong, other people on here will probably give a better answer) If your not happy with this mechanic I know a good VW specialist in Kent, although as im not sure where your based this could be a bit of a trek for you! Good luck mate!
  4. was the oil cap back on properly?
  5. I had problems with my throttle body a few weeks back, lost a little power (1.4 16v sport) and engine management light came on. I also have a bmc cda induction kit and thought this could have been the problem. I took it all apart and the filter was fine but the throttle body was a little dirty. I bought some carb/throttle body cleaner from halfords for about £3 and used it as prescribed, and it seems to have worked fine! Good luck!
  6. Alot of people eat differently before going to the gym so its hard to tell what you should or shouldnt do. I train twice a week for kickboxing among other things & always have a decent meal at around 12.30, I then have a small bowl of pasta with some pasta sauce about 2 hours before training, and then sometimes i have just 1 banana before training (dont over do it on bananas but one will give you some quick release energy). Have some almonds for snacks during the day, or cashews if you like a little more flavour. Make sure you hydrate before, during and after training, but at the same time dont drink to much too quickly. Small sips often rather than one big gulp. I usually have some sort of protein about 20mins after ive finished my training, whether it be a piece of chicken or a protein shake. This will help your muscles repair. Good luck in finding whats right for you!

    NOS

The Sport engines are not the strongest mate, Rather than NOS why dont you think about getting sports manifold, induction kit, remap etc..
  8. check your breather hose is not kinked, I had this and my car just cut out at 70mph on the m20! Also check your spark plugs & throttle body! Good luck!
  9. Id check your oil to see if its low, you will soon know if its burning it! Good Luck!
  10. I train in San Shou (its a kind of mixed martial arts) twice a week and play five a side footy on a wednesday! I find it de-stresses me!
  11. Where are you based? This sounds like a good offer!
  12. I dont think GTI's have the same problem, they have a different type of clutch as well I believe... I know its a common problem for the clutch and gearbox to go in Sports though, Ive had the pedal box problem, Ive still got a heavy clutch and my gearbox is on its way out....happy days!
  13. Sounds like your clutch cable has snapped mate, this happend to my girlfriend a few weeks ago in her fiat seicento. Either that or something else holding the cable on or something has snapped, check the connection to the pedal etc...
  14. I bought a CDA cost me about £150 including silicon hose etc... they sound good, and perhaps let the car rev a little easier at high revs, but to be honest your better off spending money on a decent manifold, performance exhaust etc... Fuzzy
  15. £3K on a 97 Fiesta 2 years ago!1.3 8v 60BHP!!!!!
  16. get yourself a decent manifold, exhaust system & induction kit before you think about re-mapping mate, you will get a better gain then! AMD quote a 10bhp increase for a sport.
  17. Probably a bit pointless but here goes... My beast: Acer Aspire Laptop 1.5GHZ Intel Celery processor!!!! Check this out it has a 400Mhz FSB! 512mb DDR2 RAM 80GB HD 15.4" Widescreen TFT DVD-Dual double layer XP PRO SP2 Does what i need it to do anyway, got a decent internet connection! My pride & joy: XBOX 360!!!! 32inch HD Hitachi TV
  18. Thats a very neat job indeed! I dont think im going to be able to re-trim my door card as ive got a sport with the weird tim&tom red trim! What I was going to do was fit the speaker like you have, cut the door card & put the speaker cover over the hole, not as professional as your way! Oh well ill see what happens, ill probably balls it all up!
  19. Wicked, cheers mate! Doesnt sound too bad now you've given me that advise! thanks again for your help, look forward to seeing the pics! Cheers, Keith
  20. Fair enough mate! What tools did you use to cut the holes in the door cards? Im going to mount the speakers on an MDF bracket and then put the door card back on, but need to cut the holes so I can tidy it up and get good sound!
  21. Hi Tom, That sounds like a fair amount of DIY! Im going to make adaptors to hold the speakers in place, but if you stripped the cloth trim off, did you put it back on? Sorry for the stupid questions, but you seem to know a fair amount more than I do about fitting speakers! cheers mate.
  22. Hi guys, Has anyone fitted rear speakers in a non GTI before? Ive pulled the rear door cards off and found the speaker mounts built in. Ive ordered some speakers & im now wondering how to fit them, while keeping the door cards! Has anyone got any ideas? (what to cut it with?...etc) any help will be much appreciated! cheers, Keith
  23. definately the pedal box mate if the clutch is lower than the brake pedal, sorry mate! Ive just got my car back, just needed a new clutch cable fortunately, had the pedal box done last year, clutch is alot lighter than it was & gear change is also alot better! Good Luck!
  24. Yea adjusting clutch is definately a good place to start, I had mine adjusted a month ago and helped for a while, but im getting a new clutch fitted tomorrow as that seems to be the cause of my troubles!
  25. It sounds like either your pedal box (check to see if the clutch pedal has dropped below the brake pedal) or could be that your gearbox is a bit ragged or the clutch could need adjusting/replacing! Unfortunately not a good thing when gears are hard to select in Loops!
