  1. skezza, the bleed valve is a bung for the pipe cos you ran out of injectors! does the job though. geoff
  2. YOU WORK FOR EURO? Wahey , I think these are dealer only parts, which is why I suggested vw and tps, but if euro sell them then do let us know, i'd have thought that you would be able to get them out of the back door at vw by going through your company, worth asking. geoff
  3. I'd say if they genuinely have got tuv approval then go for it, why pay four times the amount for something which is essentially the same product. if it doesn't work then you haven't lost much. up to you basically. tuv is pretty good. geoff
  4. people! all you need to do is get yourselves a copy of vw elsawin. discs from ebay from about £6. tells you the complete lock procedure and everything else you need to know about your car. really, it's not worth me trying to explain it for six quid as , apparently I am now the lock guru! if you still get properly stuck then pm me, I won't bite. geoff
  5. why do you need the carriers? has the garage smashed yours when they've been pressing the bearings? if you cant get any sensible answers from your garage try a scrapyard, all the diesel, low end hubs should be the same. by the way, if I'd smashed the hubs on a customer's car I would replace them, not the customer. the second of your ebay numbers is the one you want the 1.4 should fit but a 1.7 would be better, there are a lot about, good luck! geoff
  6. yes, it's the SE model which has central locking, windows, etc. the basic models have very little to go wrong. your choice! geoff
  7. haven't got a gti (or a sunroof) but there are usually corner drains going down the a pillars which get blocked. you can normally clear these with a welding rod or compressed air. that's what I'd be looking at first. I assume that you can open your sunroof? they should be in the front corner of the open roof channel. geoff
  8. before I start, my apologies to the moderators, but I couldn't for some reason post my request in "wanted". so here goes. some time ago I got sophie a set of headlights for her car, they're smoked and make the front of the car look nice, but she doesn't like them. has anyone reasonably close to me got a set of standard headlights with all mounting lugs etc, don't need the bulbs, i'll take them out of ours that they want to sell or swap the one's we have. we live near Hartlepool. pm me and i'll send you my details geoff
  9. the bottom hinge is relatively easy to change. you will need to remove the a pillar cover in the footwell. under this you will find a 12 point bolt which you will need to remove, don't drop it ! you will also need to take out 12point bolts, one going into the a pillar and one going into the door. the hinge should now come away (you may need to break the seal) you may have to get inventive with the 12 point removal tool, I normally use the shortest one in my set which fits into a holder to make it fit a 3/8 ratchet. don't use the holder but get a spanner that fits the bit directly. that way you will be able to work in the confined space easier. reverse everything to fit the new hinge, but don't tighten the two bolts that go through the a pillar. carefully close the door and make sure the gaps are ok. now tighten the inside bolt in the footwell (tight!) open and close your door to make sure everything lines up. adjust accordingly and then tighten both bolts and replace your plastics. easy! well, hopefully. good luck, Geoff. by the way the parts are available from your local vw dealer or if you have one tps (trade parts supplies) which will be cheaper. or there is the scrapyard option but you may get just as bad a hinge from them so I'd go new. simples !
  10. no fuel pump on the sdi, but the diesel lines from tank to engine can suck in air, which is a big problem. when the car is running can you see any bubbles in the clear pipe beside the engine? also check the tightness of the fuel filter connections. and what happened to your old engine? as the problem didn't seem to lie there. geoff
  11. bit off tack , but my mate has one of these in his monster focus st and he swears by it. thoroughly impressive piece of kit. when I first saw it I thought it was just another toy but I will publicly admit I was wrong about it. unfortunately I can't afford one, jealous. geoff
  12. merry Christmas to all you other saddo's that have nowt better to do on Christmas day (like me) Geoff, ho f'kin ho
  13. have you checked all the connections down to your black box and of course any relevant fuses, there may be more than one. don't just accept that things are connected, give them a good wiggle to make sure. geoff
  14. I think you can recode with vagcom lite, but you may need to register to do it, check on the ross-tech site. I've never done this myself, but I was having a look the other day and I think you can. vcl is considerably cheaper than the full monty vc but obviously its limited. worth a look anyway. geoff
  15. I've seen them with a lot more miles than that without any problems, so don't panic, stay calm and keep driving! geoff
  16. if you hold the original working key near the lock and use the key that doesn't work to start the car and it works then the problem is your key, not the immobiliser. it may need recoding. geoff
  17. we have a 1.7 sdi with no glow plug light. I recently rewired the car with an interior loom (not the engine compartment). the glow plugs still work ok but my snap on interrogator says faulty glow plug relay. I don't worry about it too much, just turn the car to ign position, leave for a minute and then crank the engine. gives the glow plugs the chance to do their stuff and starts every time. I have checked the glow plug system, it comes on and goes off so I think I may be missing a connection somewhere, i may get round to sorting it out someday. by the way the brake light switch controls all sorts of things, but make sure you get the updated version (there have been several). I don't think you can remove the bulb for the glow plug, the clock is a sealed unit. geoff
  18. talking about keeping cars and their value depreciating , have you seen the prices on mk1 escorts these days? who is to say that our very own cherished vw's won't start appreciating in value? geoff
  19. if diesels lose power its usually that the exhaust is full of crap, rather than loose, but it would be like that all the time rather than randomly. service first and let it settle for a few miles, then see what happens. geoff
  20. i would have been delighted to pick up a car with only 100 k on it . my tdi golf ha s 130k the lupo has 143k and christ only knows how many times my land rover has been around the world! it all depends on how they're looked after. if you like the car just keep it serviced and keep driving it. geoff
  21. I'd agree with that, but I only ever fit powerflex. don't buy the black range, they aren't for road cars. geoff
  22. GeoffD

    turn pump up

I've got some vw manuals for the older cars, i'll have a look, but don't hold your breath. if it's that bad, get somebody with vag com who knows what they're doing to have a look at your pump . geoff
  23. try eurocarparts, but you do have to order them. I usually get a good discount on them, not saying you will cos I shop with them a lot, but worth a try. geoff
