  1. easy 4 hours or more for the head off then plus removing and installing valves but then you could take the head off and the engine is for scrap because the piston has touched the valve or the head is cracked
  2. if your mate can fix it go for it and if your lucky the valve has not hit the piston when the belt has snapped but you know but you will know when the head comes off
  3. also did you fit the valve stem seals in the right valve because exhaust and inlet will be two different sizes
  4. where about in Hampshire you from ?
  5. only done 100 miles give it a bit longer may still have oil in the exhaust what needs burning off but then it could also mean worn valve seats or valves or cracked head that could cause it to still blow blue smoke
  6. the gearbox bearings seem to be crap in them i had to get a recon box
  7. 2.8 i think .. i used around 3 when i done the fluid on my gearbox
  8. Will be belt on your engine not chain driven .. i think its every 80k or 10 years have to double check on that one
  9. yeah i do a rebuild and change everything with high lift cams and remap and have a play around with it till i can afford to save up for something rear wheel drive not stripped it yet wont be doing it till end of the year when i got the money.. if the engine is gone i just get a recon one ..i should of done the work on it when i had the engine out in may
  10. I have now got to take the head off mine looks the rings have gone and drinking oil
  11. take the box out strip and change the 3rd gear and synchro that is why it is jumping out of gear be cheap then taking it to a mechanic and not to hard to strip either
  12. Removed my engine for clutch and timing belt there is a thread on here I did I try and find it but i never used new engine mount bolts don`t see why you would need to
  13. if its white/blue smoke more onto the side of burning water and oil meaning head gasket but also known for steam seals going a lot only way really to see if its piston rings gone as well is compression test but saying in the post white/blue smoke sounds more like head gasket
  14. sounds like selector could be the linkage worn and not letting you get the back gears 2nd 4th 6th but 1st 3rd 5th always go in fine ?
  15. Mine w reg 15000 on the clock still runs sweet
  16. Can`t say iv done one tbh you get them in kits replace the inlet side with the kit
  17. all it does is allow boost pressure off quicker so the turbo can spool up again
  18. Has anyone ever had to change one ? as mine has gone and wondered how easy it was to change
  19. yeah will wear bearings very quickly and you will also have a lot of vibrating
  20. sounds like fuel is being cut off from the pump . could be those bodged wires for the alarm system
  21. have you check spark plugs to see if your getting spark ? could be coil pack not sending a spark to the plugs
  22. yeah have to be tracked again would be knocked out after taking the ball joint out
  23. i think its the gear still in neutral and then do the bolt up on the slider then should have all gears set up but mite have to play around with it to its right .. yeah easy enough job to do yeah round that point is about right
