    Front Splitter

Read this months TopGear mag, it has a really interesting bit on aero. Crazy stuff like the new Civic Deisel took 2g/km off its emissions by putting two tiny plastic wedges between lights and wheel arches. They said most oem splitters are designed to keep air away from engine bay to reduce drag and increase economy. It is amazing how much a tiny change can make, there was a guy whose blog I read who was trying to make those wheel well deflectors for his car, you know the ones that some cars have fitted in front of wheels? Well he made them in a way that seemed sensible. He placed them in front of the tyre, angled from front to back. Result? Reduced economy and increased lift The TopGear article concludes aero is a dark art only understood by Adrain Newey. Lol.
  2. It was £855 a bit out my league but it caught my eye none the less!
  3. Ah, cheers James - I thought it was the servo. Rob thanks for that link.
  4. That is a cracking price for the refurb. They'll be proper tucked, my SE's Suzuka wheels are ET43 at 6J and I think I could happily space them 20mm just so they don't look so lost.
  5. Yesterday I was looking on DVLA website and the reg no VW51UPO was for sale, but today it has gone. Did anyone on here get it?
  6. I like the idea of fitting these on my bonnet: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hot-Rod-Kit-Car-Classic-Longbase-Door-Wing-Mirror-PAIR-/150613847721
  7. More than once I saw an orange Hummer on 22s.
  8. Yeah, I've had mixed results with scrappy parts in the past. The master cylinder looks like an engine out job?
  9. When I bought my car I was advised the brakes were seizing, the car was only doing 3k a year at the time. Got new discs and pads, garage said they'd put copper grease in one caliper as a bit stiff. They said they couldn't see them seizing. After a drive and red hot brakes took it back to them and they said couldn't see anything wrong. Try an MOT garage that had brake rollers. Suggested replacing brake master cylinder. Well the MOT was due so put it in, mentioned the brakes, and it sailed through :-/ So the current situation is that if the car sits a few days then when I'm driving I get a bit of vibration through the steering wheel and the brake pedal goes rock hard. But then it eases off again. Where would you start trouble shooting this? Sadly for me new calipers or new brake master ain't gonna be cheap or easy.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I assume most people fit them for aesthetics not for aero? Its unlikely that fitting a bit of plastic or rubber with self tappers will give you kilos of downforce, and is more likely to make things worse than better if it isn't specifically designed for the vehicle. Proper aero designers can make huge differences with minute changes, the splitter would need to work in harmony with the engine tray etc.
  11. My 1.4 75hp is getting an actual average 45mpg since I bought it. That was with 2 tyres leaking at the rim, only fixed on Tuesday, and randomly binding bakes, not fixed yet, and a pretty full boot. As mine is an SE I'm also dragging the weight of electric windows, electric sunroof and rear popouts around. Also I have a recon gearbox and 70 is about 3400rpm in 5th. 4th and 5th are pretty close with only a few hundred revs difference at 60. At current prices I'm getting 300miles to £40 roughly and tax is £160 a year.
  12. Yeah, it surprised me that 3rd party was dearer than fully comp in some situations, but basically if you are third party you are saying you are willing to walk away from a crash with nothing, so I suppose it doesn't look like you give a monkeys about the car.
  13. I pushed up on the edge of mine and it twisted 90 degrees and then I could just pull it straight out. Though admittedly they'd been out before, when the car was new Arnold Clark had to repair it cos they dropped the transporter's upper deck on it :-o
  14. When I bought my car there was a 1cm thick layer of mank on the liners. I'd rather it on the liner than the bodywork, but it has made me think maybe, since the car is 9, I should take the liner out and clean behind it.
  15. Got a daylight pic? The fronts look like they'll struggle, is there much stretch on the tyres? Hard to see in that pic. Do you need the full 5mm of the spacer? Would a 3mm one still work?
  16. Makes me feel ancient. The stuff I did at school was on 5 1/4" floppy and the stuff I did at uni was on 3.5" floppy!
  17. Looks like you need to recalculate the normals on the side glass, or at least join the vertices. What application were you using? In 3dsmax I think you could sort it by making sure they are all part of the same smoothing group? But I haven't used it since version 5, many years ago...
  18. I used the smallest flat bladed screw driver to pop it out. Just push it into the gap and lever it. 13mm bolts and torx screws here on my Lupo.
  19. Thats the ones. Mine was never supplied with the boot bag to the original owner
  20. Bit dark out for photos, but there are a couple of tiny ones on here: http://forums.clublu...showtopic=62657 I'll get some in daylight.
  21. Shame you are so far away, I've a set of 13s from a Vento that have done heehaw mileage in the garage. Deffo not bent or anything, only marks on them are from storage.
  22. What bit stays lit up red? The slot beneath the CD? It always does that if there is a CD in. Or on the Beta unit? Only the dial backs are red on mine. Screen is blue.
