advice on how to straighten sills out?
max West-York replied to max West-York's topic in Car Care, Maintenance and Mechanical
That sounds like a plan might get an adjustable spanner with a piece of wood in against the sill so it does a larger area at once and they dont look like wavy/warped when im done -
how do you get to the throttle body

got my baby back from garage yesterday with new gearbox in, running sweet again so finally back in the mood to work on the car haha just looking at the guide posted above do you just clean the tb while its still on the car in the airbox compartment or do you have to take it right out If you do how to you get it out? and finally, (sorry for 21 questions) is there any proper way to clean or is it literally, leave the car turned off for a while, get to it, give it a spray of tb cleaner and clean it out with a cloth and put it back together? Cheers Max -
you can just loosen then bottom 2 bolts on the strut and pull the hub - from the top - away from the car so give maximum positive camber, though obviously youll still have a bit of camber from being low anyway if you want them 100% straight then youll have to file the bolt holes so you can pull the hub further away from the car

im running spigots and theyre on the hub bore, can spin the wheel when the cars jacked up and it spins perfectly straight so i dno, guessing its related to caliper, car goes in tomo so ill look after that -
Skeptical about spacers.
max West-York replied to Brammo's topic in Car Care, Maintenance and Mechanical
i dont see why not if there are already holes straight through the spacer, though id say its just a very worn set of spacers if youre really not keen on using them why not buy 2 new ones if thats all you need? (dont have to be RH, just small enough to fit inside the shoulders) -

You might be right then, it did seem a little harder to turn that wheel when i had them off last week Is it something i can do myself or better to take it to the garage so i dont mess anything up? EDIT: how could i tell the difference between a sticky caliper or broken hose? would either cause the car to pull to the side when breaking? (because it currently doesnt pull at all) -
yeah, I'm just trying to fix everything mechanical before i get down to anything styling related haha and wouldn't be worth running the risk of a second hand box for the sake of £100, all in all found a good deal really Already replaced loads of oem bits, new grille, gear gaitor&knob, various trim etcetc just so its looking fresh again

Im running 14x7-et45 14x8-et35 rh cups with the stupid shoulders on the hub face of the wheel, Im using shims 10mm front 5mm back (non RH -135mm in diameter to fit within shoulders) with spigots and extended bolts purely to clear the shoulders so they go on straight, im buying new hubcentrics in spring, pretty much same as using hubcentric because theyre still resting on the hub properly, aslong as you dont NEED spacers over 10mm (hub mount is roughly 12mm) you can still get them on perfectly straight and safely for like £20 a set all round (make sure theyre 135mm or less in diameter though) You can buy new hubcentric spacers that will fit within the shoulders of the hub face of the wheel (135mm or less)which is what I'm eventually buying for more stance (£60 per pair of 20mm - proper ones that bolt to the hub) -

forgot bout this but, i havent been paying attention to it since the box went but do you think theres anyway the wobble could be related to a broken gearbox? and to whoever said to pulse the brakes when it did it, i think it helped the problem but as i was trying it out my 5th gear went on the motorway and other matters became more important! clutch has been replaced and box is going in on thurs/fri any ideas? -
dropping car off thurs, getting it back friday, getting a fully recon' box for 420 all in, with 2 years/24k miles warranty Fair price since most places where asking min 450 with 1 year warranty tops, and all down south were 500+ £700 down, not a happy bunny At least Laronda will be fit as a fiddle for summer

these are sick  i cant find any for sale anywhere though! haha

Well my luck's gone from bad to worse, clutch was changed today but it turns out the gearbox is nackered and no matter what the garage tried they couldn't get it into 5th, as well as this theres a fairly hefty rattle coming from the box (was like this before clutch change too) Instead of paying for it to be stripped in hope of the slim chance of repair I've decided to get a second hand gearbox, besides mine has a small oil leak anyway (oil levels were always maintained so this isn't the cause of the failure), the garage will fit a new one for £100 so I just need to find a decent condition one. My main question is does it matter what engine code the gearbox came from (as long as its a 1.4S box) Also; -Does a higher mileage always mean more worn for a gearbox, or is entirely on driving style? -What's a fair price for a decent nick second hand box, about 150-250? -Anything I should look out for when I'm looking for a second hand gearbox? e.g damage etc (as I'd have no idea if it was working from just looking at it ) Cheers, Max

Cant seem to find any info on how to get the bulbs out of the indicators, and dont want to break anything by pulling it Search on here isn't great, so sorry again if this has already been answered somewhere else But can anyone help me out, I want to change to them to chromed bulbs because I'm fed up of Laronda giving me the orange wink Cheers!
