Temperature gauge isn't moving

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Haven't been on for a while but I noticed yesterday that my temperature gauge wasn't working? And today on my way home from work it wasn't working again either?

Could anyone shed some light on this for me please?

Thanks Emma

Two possibilities.

1. Coolant Temperature Sensor

2. Thermostat

CTS is under a tenner and very easy to remove and replace, just need more coolant and ninja hands to minimize coolant loss. If it still doesn't work then Thermostat is the next point, if still not then water pump.

yes definitely coolant temperature sensor first

if the thermostat was broke it the gauge would still work it would either be stuck closed and over heat alot or be stuck open and take forever to warm up[

so do the coolant temp sensor

but of advice have a look at the one now unplug your conncector and see if it have a square connector block or a sort of D shaped one as there are two types that where fitted if its the D one you will need to buy one with a green plastic connector block if its the square one you will be looking for a black one

My boyfriend last night put more coolant in it and took it out round the bypass and the temperature gauge moved and sat at 90 degrees but when I took it out to work this morning it sat at 70 and again on the way home?

Will this still be the coolant sensor thing?
