Rickpercy87
Hi, i'm looking to expand my toolbox. I have an arosa I am breaking down. Looking at the cylinder head bolts I don't seem to have anything that fits (Im guessing there are other special bolts that may need specific sockets aswell). Is there a special set I can buy which will work on all VAG cars or something, or do each cars have different bolts? So far I have found these on ebay.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BERGEN-6pc-3-8-1-2-Drive-Spline-XZN-Socket-Bit-Set-BMW-Mercedes-Volkswagen-VW-/271284012358?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item3f29c98546

GeoffD
I believe they are known as ribe sockets. the ones from mm are ok, but they are just not long enough to take out two of the bolts on the heads on some models. bought a set by franklin which while they were dearer actually do the job. consequently , I now have two sets of long ribe sockets, mm and franklin. oh well, you can never have too many tools eh? geoff

Dblock
I wouldn't buy from machine mart unless you want to pay double for an item you could buy elsewhere. Know what you want e.g. size, length etc etc. Then pick a good company and look on ebay, amazon screwfix etc.
Rickpercy87
I'm not sure on the size of the bolts for the cylinder head. Does anybody happen to know?
Dblock
I'm not sure on the size of the bolts for the cylinder head. Does anybody happen to know? You will want a set though but find out what range e.g. lets say its sockets you would want 8-20mm for most jobs but you might need a 6mm or whatever too. Mattz341
I've got this set, absolutely brilliant and has everything in it to do most jobs bit expensive but I needed it In a hurry, IMO always go for a good branded item with bits like this, you'll pay some money for the brand but usually you get better quality tools with longer lasting splines etc and always buy from a reputable shop and make sure too keep the receipt! http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cht144-40-pce-torxspline-bit-holder-s

GeoffD
nope, I have taken vw engines to bits with ribe head bolts. knowing vw to be awkward b&&tards they probably only did it for two years. but I know I had to buy two sets cos the first one wasn't long enough.
