ArmyLupo
Could someone write me a walkthrough of how to do it without a Spring compressor on a 1.4 16v Lupo? Doesn't have to be too detailed, just gimlet the basics and I can figure it out.
ArmyLupo
Is it even possible to do it without a spring compressor?
electricracer
yes its possible if you want to risk seriously hurting yourself. there is a lot of energy stored in springs and messing about without the correct tools is more than dangerous, rent beg borrow or steal a set of compressors dont try without its not worth it

JoeA
The best way to do it is hold the strut in one hand, and your spanner in the other, loosen the top bolt while holding the spring down with your chin...
Pete91
You should be able to do the rears without a spring compressor by undoing the strut at the axle and swinging the axle down. Tight squeeze but I'm sure you'll be able to do it with your hands. As already mentioned though it's mental trying to properly compress a spring without the right tools. If the springs unloads then you can pretty much say cheerybye to having a head.
geeza
I managed to do it on a 6n polo. Used a trolley jack and normal jack. Basically putting a load on it and dropping the shocks slowly but keeping the car in the air.
ADAMH0
A brand new pair of spring compressors is £6.99 with free postage on ebay..... for that money it must be worth getting some to save the aggro?
