mercer1105
Think my car has a oil leak as its using loads, so today I put some 10w/30 in but then realised its the wrong oil for the 1.4 100bhp lupo, will it make a difference?
RS6plusMTM
How much oil did you put in?
mercer1105
Litre
RS6plusMTM
Assuming thats now fill it up to the max, i doubt if it will much a difference mixing with the remaining oil as it will be 5:1/4:1 ratio with what's already in there
mercer1105
It had nothing on dipstick but it was warm
RS6plusMTM
Check in when the oils settled and top up with the correct oil to the max level. If it was a high performance engine like a 911 GT3 I would prob drained it to be on the safe side (knowing its £30k for a new engine), but with an old 16v lupo block I wouldn't worry too much myself. Better to have the wrong oil than no oil at all
Defcon5
VW don't actually specify a viscosity, so as long as it meets the 502/505 spec its fine.Where did you find a 10w30 oil? Not many of those about
Skezza
VW changed the recommendation a year or two ago didn't they?
Defcon5
Not for Lupo/arosas no
jamiea7x
i use 15w/40 in my lupo, as it slows down the oil consumption, when i was using 5w30 it was using it like no ones business, that reminds me, i need to top it up actually. Defcon5
Jamie, a 0w40 or 5w40 would be a bit better on these cold winter days, whilst still being thicker when hot so slow the oil consumption.
jamiea7x
i know, ill prob change over when i run out,
JoeA
Mine is munching 10w40, no water in the oil or smoke etc though so im thinking thats just 10w40 for you?
