alpha
Hi,My 1ltr Lupo (2000) has been low on power recently, it felt like I had lost a cylinder.I had a look under the bonnet and I can see one of the spark plugs sparking against the plug housing. I am guessing that this is the problem.I bought a new set of NGK plugs but the problem I'm having is how do I remove the HT leads from the plug? I didn't want to pull or twist too hard, but I couldn't figure it out.Any help would really be appreciated! Thanks.
Rich
Grip the body of the lead rather than the cable and yank. You can use needle nose pliers if you don't squeeze too hard.Alternatively a VR6 HT lead tool is the perfect solution if you have one. sharpelupo
If you mean remove the ht from the spark plug just pull it will pop off
alpha
Thank you Rich and sharpelupo, I'll try pulling a little harder! With regards to the spark plug sparking against the housing, is this something you've seen before? Does it seem consistant with the description of loss of power? Thanks again for the help
Skezza
Yes. One of the big things with Lupos is HT leads packing up, i think this can lead to arc'ing.
alpha
Thanks Skezza.I'll try replacing the plugs first and see if that sorts it, if not I'll get a new set of HT leads. Leads were changed 3 years ago so it'll be a bit annoying to change them again, usually they last longer than that right?Any recommended brands, carparts4less has a set for around £30. Rich
If you didn't use genuine HT leads then 3 years is about right.
alpha
Thanks Rich. I don't think they were genuine ones I'll give it a go this weekend, thanks for all the help.

alpha
Hi Guys,Just a quick update.Good news is I got the old leads off fairly easily after a strong pull.Found that one of the HT leads was knackered so will have to order a new set of those to fit next week.I got the set of NGK plugs which I was going to change until I realised they don't fit!I had bought a set of NGK BUR6ET plugs, which it turns out is for engine code AER and I have an ALD engine code! The correct NGK part number for my engine code is BUR6ET-10. They are slightly thinner than the other ones. So, next week I'll fit a new set of HT leads and the correct plugs.Been a bit fustrating but a good learning experience. Thanks guys. Update: Managed to get this all sorted over the weekend fairly easily. With the right plugs and leads everything went smoothly and car is driving great again. Thanks for all the help.
