8ballvmax
ok daft question but are these the same enines?? and is it a "simple" case of just swapping engine and box or is it more involved on the electrical side ,like ECU etc.... ford escorts were so much simpler lol

Blaine
aha i see you have done this urrm lots lolif i was to do it i think the best option for me would be to get a 6n2 gti so everyhting is there engine loom, interior loom, ecu ect...i guess i would need to make the exhaust myself..mines a 1.4sare engine mounts the same? so will the engine /gearbox just bolt in?do you need the gti radiator if so was this easy to mount?do you need gti hubs for the drive shafts?can i use my fuel pump?are the clutch and gear linkage easy to adapt?cheers Blaine
dubsy
right engine and gearbox mounts are the same, you dont need the gti radiator use your own, hubs and driveshfts are the same i changed the fuel pump for the gti one as its a better spec and the cluch and gear linkage are the same, only differences are if your running drive by wire youll have to convert to flyby wire so youll need the polo gti gas pedal, as for the looms you will need the rear loom( important due to the immobiliser ) and engine bay loom, however the plugs on the polo rear loom are different to the lupo, for the central locking and sun roof( if you have one), so the lupo plusgs will have to be spliced onto the polo loom, this also applies to the engine bay loom for the headlights the lupo plugs will have to be spliced onto the polo loom if your keeping your original key you will then have to have this reprogrammed to the polo ecu( i did this ) otherwise you need to use the polo ignition barrel and key but that means having 2 separate keys for doors and ignitionhope this helps, carl
Blaine
Thanks for the helpso from a mechanical point of view it's just a straight swap 1.4 out GTI in then the hard part is the wiring.i was pretty sure my car is flyby tbh

Dogbot
The only thing I would say differently to dubsy is to use the bigger rad, if you've got it you may aswell, just need to cut out the closed half of the cowl. an you can tak the chip from the donor cars key an put it in your original key, no need for recoding then, it just lifts from one key to another, also I found it far less work to splice in the polo engine and ecu loom into th lupo loom, personal preference tho I believe on that front Edited June 1, 2012 by Dogbot
