Liam-R
Hummmmmm, wonder if your actuator arm is broken.... Wouldn't work after the engine had restarted though.... Could be a boost pipe has come loose/split...
chris c
sounds like its going into limp mode a sensor might be faulty on the boost pipe so the engine wont let it boost incase of damage or something along those lines
Big Jase
Sounds like limp mode to me....Could be an overboost issue from a sticky vnt....You could try some innotec turbo cleaner or you may need a new turboCheck boost pipes first but sounds an overboost
rh203
Would a vag com still show the problem even if the engine warning light hasn't come on?
chris c
it might have logged the fault code but turned the light off if the problem went away shame as your car is very nice
Big Jase
Yup vcds will probaly store it!Im betting overboost from sticky vein's in the turboGood excuse for a pd130 turbo 8)
rh203
Hmm..I wonder if i flog it about a bit it will go away? I don't think the last owners drove it in anger tbh.. So vagcom would tell me if it's the turbo or if its a valve or sensor and which one?Its only done 59k so a new turbo sounds a bit harsh
rh203
Is innotec turbo cleaner any good or just a fad??
Big Jase
the vnt turbo's need a good 'italian' tune up now and again or they just get all sludged upi've heard a few people get results from it...a company over on uk mkiv's use it, can't remember there name, had a few positive results
rh203
went and spoke to a local VW specialist who said to try and give the car a proper airing and hammer it around a bit to get the turbo spinning up alot. I'm pretty sure it's mainly been used to nip to the shops / not very long journeys so going to try and give it a bit stick of at least keep it in higher gear to have it sat on the turbo area of revs. To be honest It's not really done it much so just going to give it a good few weeks and get used to it before spending money on diagnostics... Big Jase
yeah if its not too bad it may clear itself, just needs a damn good hammering!! just make sure its nice and warm first and you let it cool off!!

Bet it had plenty of interest on it!Hi mate, yea it was on for about 4 hours before I saw it n got it. Wasn't messing about as I had sold my GTI and had cash sitting ready so I called the guy and when he said he just wanted 3k I snapped his hand off... I drove from Newcastle to Windermere that night and got it. He was saying people were ringing saying they'd have it for 3,700 up to more than 4k but he was a gentleman and kept it for me anyway. Really happy with it...got a right bargain tbh! Just need to get it on a VAGcom and see what the limp mode is about but other than that it's immaculate! It's only done it about 4 times in 400 miles or so and it's intermittent...going to give it a while before hooking it up to the obd port as I drove to Leeds on Thursday and it didn't happen once.
