Common Fault **WARPED DISCS**

Recommended Posts

I read somewhere on here about Lupos getting warped discs and its a common problem. I had new discs two months after buying the car. after 3 or 4 months i have them again. Whats the matte.

Was it because the garage didnt replace the pads. You could see a rust ring round the disc where the pads were not touching the discs while breaking.

This is going to be my second set of discs in 6 months.

Any Help Thanks Dan

Yes, if yo have one pad putting more pressure on the disc you are more likely to get warping.

I swapped my GTI discs in a bit of a hurry and didn't clean, free and grease the caliper and carrier other than a quick wipe down. My discs lasted less than a year\6000 miles.

Next time I changed them I got a VW specialist to strip the calipers and do it properly and they're still good.

Spend the time now, it will save you time and money in the future.

Are they solid discs or vented, solid is easier to warp through harsh braking on riding the brakes.

They are vented, like silver said, i think its because the garaged replaced the discs and not the pads which has put pressure on them. I never break hard unless there is need and i dont ride the breakes either

Yeah think you might be right, im going to get them all done nearer MOT, new pads and discs and a good check over. ** not by Kwick fit though **

A lot of the time Warped discs are caused by one of two things:

The first - Incorrect fitting procedues:

* If the wheel hub flange is not cleaned up properly with a wire brush, it can cause the disc to sit ever so slightly un-even on the surface causing heat spots on the disc which eventually cause it to warp.

The second - Hub Runout

* If the actual wheel hub flange is warped itself, this will cause disc after disc to warp! If this is the cause of the problem, you would normally only see one side of the vehicle warping discs.

It's also possible to warp discs by keeping your foot on the brake pedal after coming to a stop from medium to high speed. Again this will cause heat spots.

When taking the wheels off one time i did notice that the flange looked like it has been hammered. Would this be the problem

I thought general procedure was always to replace pads when replacing disks?
