yeah i need one so bad because vw dont have a manufacture date for the sump. does anyone know what other vw sumps will fit?

and the worst thing is i won't know how much unseen damage to the crank and lower part of the engine has been done untill they remove the sump the bill could be even more than that.

luckilly tho it wasn't the gearbox it hit because that would of been £2115.00 +vat + 8 hours labour at £50

That must have been a big boulder mate, what did you drive over.....stonehenge?

Seriously though, what about the Lupo sport sump? Isn't the sport the same block as the gti so the sump mounting may be the same. Also as someone said earlier Polo Gti will be the same, maybe some of the 1.4 Polo's as well?

Get the lazy VW monkies to find out if any other cars in their range have an identical sump, its only a tin tray really so I would have thought they would commonise to save cost as much as possible.

Hope crank is ok, did you stop engine straight away to prevent oil starvation, though if the rock smashed the sump it may have clattered the crank anyway sad.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

stoped engine about 10 seconds later after pullign up. it was still running fine when i stopped with no noise so i think i've been very lucky.

no vw dealer has a sump for that engine block they're crap!

i did some research the block is the same on the 1.4 engine all they've done for the 1.6 gti is lengthened the stroke and a lot of other little things.

does anyone know the part number by any chance for the sump maybe i can find it that way.

the GTI engine out the polo has a sump which is silver (alumimum or something???) and is also different shape to the sump on the 1.4 16v engine which is in my car, the one in my car is black and a completely difference shape

this is the sump out of me mates mk4 polo with the GTI engine in

back ordered parts dont ussually take all that long to come. they just wont give u a date as they dont want make promises they cant keep.

any other sump thats the same ie polo gti etc is going to have the same part number any way and therefore be backordered.

i would be careful about putting a different sump that just happnes to fit on it as it may have a larger capacity. which means u take it in for its next service. And they could end up accidently putting to much oil in and fuicking the engine.
