2001 Moon Silver GTi - Update 13/07/10

Well this was the 3rd and now final Lupo GTi we went to see, it was simply too good to risk loosing, I am 110% confident I won't find a better condition one of these again! The 438 mile round trip was worth every minute. Some of you might have seen my thread about viewing this and putting down a reposit, and also loosing some on other "stunning examples" which ended up being complete dogs.

62,000 miles

3 previous owners (although the 1st owner kept it for 3 months part exchanged it due to it being "too fast" lol)

Air con (recently re-gassed)

Nice and firm feeling 6 speed box and clutch

Cam belt, tensioners, aux belt, coolant changed recently along with a metal water pump fitted and a service

Spotless condition bodywork and paint (and also no corrision on spoiler, roof rails, boot handle chips etc)

Bathhurst wheels wrapped in new T1R rubber with no markings or damage

White side lights, number plate lights, and interior lighting

2 remote GTi keys

Clifford concept 650 alarm (Anti hijack, total closure, shock and proximity sensors, with two remotes)

Along with all the usual GTi factory extras!

I honestly cannot emphasize how well this car has been kept, the guy had recently replaced the GTi badges, and rear brake light too and the heated mirror glasses because he wasn't happy with them.

Today decided to give it a clean up after the miles on the motorway along with a new stubby aerial and ditching the rear wiper, along with some random shots B)

And another vid showing the Clifford sensitivity, don't think anyone will be near it and certainly won't be able to steal it due to the anti hijack ;) - Excuse the camera angle!

Since joining this forum my 1st main change has to be lowering it as they look a lot better hugging the floor. When the log book arrives back I'll be registering my private plate. But before I can think of any other plans I will be going on holiday in 4 weeks time so thats being funded for first! B)

Let me know your thoughts

Changed the stereo/cd player round, which I think looks better, and I'm pretty sure it should of been this way around in the first place?!

Ok so got a bit carried away today with a "quick wash" which turned in to a 5 - 6 hour cleaning session!

Consisting of:

Meguiars Gold Class Shampooed

Meguiars Wheel Cleaner and brake dust removed from the calipers

Dried with Meguiars Water Magnet - Including door shuts, boot, under bonnet etc

Meguiars Clay Barred with Speed Detailer - All paint work and front and rear lights

Auto Glym Super Resin Polished

Meguiars Gold Class Waxed

Meguiars Trim Cleaner for the aerial, mirror bases etc

Meguiars Metal Polish - For the centre exit pipes ;)

Meguiars Tyre Gel

All Glass Rain ex'd

And lots of microfibre cloths!

I also remembered I had some 6000k temperature bulbs for the Xenon's. What a nightmare just to change a set of bulbs, remove 31 torx screws, 4 push clips, the upper grill, headlight washer caps, and lower grill caps, all just to get to the last 2 torx screws to remove the headlights, so you can take off the 3 torx screws holding the cap on to gain access to the bulb! Guess thats where VW dealer garages make their money from

Excuse the amount of pictures!

On with the polish

05062010548.jpg

05062010549.jpg

The amount of effort this involved deserved a picture lol

05062010555.jpg

Before picture of the old bulbs

05062010556.jpg

After polish

05062010558.jpg

05062010561.jpg

Metal polish - This stuff is highly recommended

05062010562.jpg

All finished with the waxing and tyre shine etc B)

05062010566.jpg

05062010567.jpg

05062010570.jpg

A few showing the new bulbs on, ideally need to get some night shots to show these off

05062010577.jpg

05062010578.jpg

05062010579.jpg

They are a lot brighter though

05062010580.jpg

And the magic bag of tricks

05062010563.jpg

So...

One clean Lupo GTi...

One happy puppy!

Looks good mate, i to am going to change my bulbs soon to 8k's i think, not looking forward to it!!

I've also got some of that metal polish, what did you use to apply it to the exhaust? I had a quick go the other day but it didn't come up half as good as yours in the picture.

yes she is super cute isnt she, god knows how she had the patience to hang around and wait for 5-6 hours! lol

i used a microfibre cloth to apply the metal polish and to buff it off :)

i bought the bulbs from hids-direct :shades:

Ok thanks are they the ones for £20 and then you select what K rating you want?

Just £20 seems cheap for those bulbs they any good then?

^I had one of their kits in my old car and the bulbs were still great after a year when i sold the car.

I used a set in my Mini Cooper S, my Clio 172, my Clio DCi, and the boyfriends Ibiza Cupra(s), and now his Polo  Highly recommend them to anyone and never had a problem with them. Don't forget these are JUST THE BULBS not the ballasts etc from a normal HID kit. Having xenons as standard is win! B)

And lastly.... came out from doing some shopping to find this beast next to me lol!

Still on the look for coilovers but can't seem to find any within the budget :(

Hope you all approve!
