Black Lupo
195/45/16what width are ur alloys?!
Snoopy
You can run whatever size you like within reason, the suggestions were for ones that keep your rolling radius (and hence performance) the same.
Bikerz
im still looking at rims, this was gona be my next topic !I dont like the really small euro styling rims like on the green venmous (or that feature car), i wanted more stand out look, but wasnt sure how far i could go..E.G. wolf race mantis are 1 common and 2 they would look stupid, but i want somthing in between, what u lot recon? one litre wonder ;)
right i was playing about with a tyre size calculator ( with my orginal tyre size of 185*55*14 ) and the size that i need so that the speedo reads the actuall speed is a 195*40*16 and if i run a 195*45*16 i will be going 62.5mph when the needle says
Bikerz
but surely it dont matter is it a 195 or a 205 as width wont matter will it?
bossjohnc
Changing the width does actually change the rolling radius, more than you'd think as well.Tyre (or tire if you read the times) Calculator
dj_slipp
the 40 or 45 etc is a ratio rather than the actual height of the tyre wall.
Tigz™
I belive the profile should be 30% of the overall tyre width
one litre wonder ;)
yeah but they are the sidewalls that keep a 16" nearest to the original rolling radius
matt_arosa16v
I have 195/45/15s and will be getting 195/45/16s. Obviously 195/40/16s would be better but the cost and availability of these is a problem.
one litre wonder ;)
yup , thats why u'll need to be just that bit more carefull when going through speed traps
Arvid
i run `195-40`-16 which is said to be the right size, but tire choice is limited and a much more expensive than `195-45`-16 tires.
one litre wonder ;)
yeah i asked one of ma local tyre places and this guy is usually the cheapest in the area and he said that his supplier only stocks a dunlop and bridgestone ( i think ) in that size 195*40*16 and he said 75 quid for the dunlop and 85 for the other
matt_arosa16v
Certainly not a fan of Dunlops anyway. Loads of tread left on mine still but very poor in the wet. I think even the standard Firestones (or whatever they're called) performed better.
RobinA3
195/40/16's have come down in price alotwhen i first got 16's i had to run 195/40/16 tyres and i paid £120 a piece for some dunlop SP9000's, the reason why they were so expensive was because the only manufacturer who made them was dunlop at the time.now you can get them much much cheaper because 3 manufacturers make them nowthere is dunlop, pirelli and erm someone else does them as well, can't remember whotry mytyres.co.uk
Arvid
number 3 is Continental with their sports contact tire i think
