I brake really hard and im already on my second set of discs and pads, so it depends on your driving style as well as the milage. Take ya wheel off and check the pads mate, just see if there low. Crusoe Posted December 24, 2003 Report Share Posted December 24, 2003 should be able to tell if your disks are shot, run a finger over them to the edge and see how deep the groove has cut into the metal, more than 2mm and they need replaced. Posted December 27, 2003 Report Share Posted December 27, 2003 The standard brakes on the GTi,ive not had a real problem with...they stop the car!...but the amount of brake dust on the alloys,mean i will probably need new ones at the first service..........i brake hard,but only fit competition pads if you are driving alot of miles and hard braking most of the journey....because green stuff pads need warming up before they even begin to work!
