deewhy
my 1.4 8v engine is goosed. instead of replacing it as a straight swap, is there any hassle in putting a 1.6 8v in it. would i need a different ecu, loom etc. is it the same block and engine mounts etc. need some advice. appreciated.thanks in advance. Scottish_Sport_16V
Could be wrong but i'm pretty sure theres isnt a 1.6 8v in the Lupo/Rosa range!Lack or responces is probs due to the fact theres tonnes of info on converions in this tunning section just need to put the effort in and look for it, gather some knowledge then come back and ask some questions.Good luck
Matty_Gti
1.6 8v? where is that engine from? are you thinking of the 1.6 16V from the Gti? There was a sport with the Gti transplant done not so long back, have a little search and i think most of your questions will be answered in that thread
IDGM
What about the Polo Mk4 1.6 8V all you Doubting Thomases?Sorry I can't be of any help though on the swap situation. It does seem to be a suck-it-and-see situation with swaps like this.
dubsy
hi i have a lupo sport running a polo gti 1.6 16v the same engine basically as the lupo gti inorder to do the conversion you will need the following--engine and gearbox-full loom front and back-clocks from the gti-ecu and keys-throttle body and throttle pedal with sensor to convert from drive by wire to flyby wire (if you running a throttle cable currently)-possibly bigger brakes not sure what set ups in the 8vany more questions just ask
Petes 16V Sport
I have no idea but other possible candidates are the 1.4 16V 75ps from the lupo s and 1.4 16V 100ps from the sport. Good luck.
deewhy
sorry folks, i was talking about the MK4 polo engine. i'm looking for the quickest and cheapest method. not looking for much more power, seen a few engines on e-bay going for little as £200 for the block head and ecu.. think this is all i need. otherwise a straight swap. well they look the same. where could i find spec to compare sizes and mounting, manifolds and exhaust stuff. basically looking for a straight replacement engine.sticking coilovers on it next week, so it would be ideal to change the engine at the same time. thanks in advance. deewhy
if anyone is bored and looking for a mission. could you look on the club polo site, as its blocked by my server. (at work just now). see how similar the 1.4 is to the 1.6 8v. i have a sneaky suspition that it will be a straight swap. same downpipe mountings and wiring. hopefully. how do i upload a pic of ma wee red puddle jumper?1998 red arosa 1.4 mpi. lowered 80mm on wolfrace street octane rims. 195x45x15. otherwise standard. g-man85
Another engine is the 1.6 8v Engine used in the mk3 golf....now these are identical to the mk4 polo 1.6's.....However the mk3 golf had a 'rolling stones' edition with the 1.6 8v engine that actually had 100hp and higher torque. Now that would make an interesting conversion over the 1.4 16v sport engines..... deewhy
A HA! Now that would be interesting. i'm having trouble finding engine codes to do a search. can anyone supply some info? or a site? checked the wiki pages, but no luck. looking for engine codes of the 1.4 8v, 1.6 8v and the hold grail for me just now. "the rolling stones edition 1.6 8v".
