muzzy
ooooo style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> I thought you'd be talking close to 2k for a 1.8t lump fitting, and maybe 1k for a 1.8t engine and gearbox. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
Tigz™
Yes, £1k for the engine and box.About £2k if you fit it yourself, but a credit card car will cost a crap load more than that.

LINCOLNSHIRESLUPOGTI
It is going to cost me about £2500 for my throttle bodies and management fitted to my gti engine. The engine does not need to be removed/refitted so that is an idea of how much labour costs these days! Was quoted £8000 plus for a 1.8T in my Gti but that is stupid money and with only the 150bhp spec why bother. Get 170bhp from bodies, proper noise, leave the correct engine in the car and save £5500. Always the option of cams and head work later on for another 20bhp as well.Sorry I have gone off on one have'nt I style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

big_chris1981
not quite right........some of the 150bhp engine can be mapped to about 200bhp (the later fly by wire), but 220bhp is a bit of a tuners boast...and is pushing the engine/turbo a bit....for that sort of power people like amd are changing turbos and exhausts..... The subtle modder
My uncle owns a skoda octavia VRS pushing out standard 180bhp and was gonna have it chipped to 220bhp but recons that much power through the front wheels is stupid as hes used to rear wheel drive which controls it so much better, so to have more than that power in a lupo which is half the size of an octavia you really must have lost your marbles its like signing your own death warant, reallyOne of the best 1.8T lupo's ive seen is the Venom motorsport green machine which pushed out 340bhp but had to be 'detuned' to 300bhp but that really is a drag carHow heavy is the 1.8T lump compared to a gti lump? sounds daft but in nova's when you put a 2.0 engine in it rashes the handling as the front end becomes too heavy therefore destroying the driving enjoyment of the car IMOwayne

Tigz™
But then the 225 K04 engines came with other issues that ment tuneing these were slightly pointless unless you engine melt down. The 150 and 180 engines were better base models if I remember correctly? LINCOLNSHIRESLUPOGTI
Yes you can tune the 1.8T but the point is it is £8000+ just for a basic spec. Add a chip new turbo, bigger intercooler etc, etc and it is over £9000 for 280ish bhp.I would think a 190bhp throttle bodied, cammed and head worked Lupo would not be far off the tuned turbo in everything bar a straight drag race. And for the little bit that the throttle bodied car was left behind you could think "ah, my car was £6500 cheaper than the turbo.....and it sounds like and aural orgasm".And the 1.8T would have only 5 gears to play with as the 6 speed box for that series of engine doesnt fit in the Lupo, not that important but it is nice to keep 6 all the same.On the tuning of the 1.8T, I think it is the AGU engine code you want. These I believe have better internal cooling of the head and a forged bottom end. Please correct me though if I am wrong here. The reason my throttle body work is a reasonable price (though I dont think cheap by any means) is that I know the guy doing it and spent stacks of money at his business a few years ago when he built me a full race spec mini engine. snotagolf
As for a 200 bhp lupo non turbo being close sorry thats crap the torque of the turbo engine says it all and who needs 6 gears i dont my advise to the guy is buy one all ready done

Martin CUK
I would never believe what you read in mags such like Fast Car/Max Power as the majority of time it's ****! I know of so many cars that have been featured in those mags with false information in the articles it's untrue...Bill Brockbank had JBS do the 1.8T is his wife's Lupo, but I'm pretty sure it didn't cost him £8k for it...AND, there are a numerous 150 1.8T engines running IHI turbo's (300+ bhp) without any internal modifications, and they're reliable. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

The subtle modder
thats silly monyey IMO surely someone must do a kit to do the conversion? like with novas and corsa you can but an XE conversion kit
