Lupo GTI rear brakes on UP (GTI)

I know that rear discs would look much nicer through the open alloy wheels on the Up! GTi, but as far as actual brake performance goes, the standard Up! GTi setup is better than that of the Lupo GTi. I was surprised with how well the Up! braked.

well..probably 15 years between them  means also other other improvements...like master cylinder...pedal feel...and of course being new helped.

i cannot agree that rear brakes do really nothing. they do some. besides echilibrating the body of car during brake..also brake distribution. imagine 0% brake power on rear during hard brake or even during curves..lets imagine both :)

I know this topic is 8 years old, but getting interested in the matter, did this go somewhere? Wanting to get met an Up! TSI in future.

I used to be in the Opel (Vauxhall) camp and would always upgrade the brakes on the Corsa's (Nova's) I had. I also did a rear disc conversion on a Vauxhall Astra Mk1. The only thing I noticed, was that braking capacity wasn't increased, just availability under much braking was better. Drum overheated faster than the disc brakes.

Best upgrade would be to use the Vauxhall Astra mk2 (Opel Kadett) GSI-16V on the front axle. This would improve braking capacity massively going from 236mm massive to 256mm ventilated.

Probably upgrading the front brakes gives more results than changing rears to discs.

Cheers!
