  1. Due to the milage i do in my car i usually fill up every `2-3` days. Therefore to string it out as long as possible between `fill-ups` i often run with the fuel light on. Most ive dared do is 30miles but that was at 60mph so was panicking abit. Gti is 8 gallon tank but even after running with light on can only get 22quid of Optimax in it to the brim. Worst is about 200miles to tank and best about 235. Reckon since new ive averaged about 39mpg. And i have done 29000miles in the car now in 18 months!!!
  2. Couldnt agree more Twisty. Oh thats what i have. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  3. I got all the parts from TSR Performance who were: very very helpful, very knowledgeable, very good customer service. Front discs, front pads, front carriers, rear disc & rear pads (see first post in the thread for details of parts) was £450 in total. ROBIN: G60 carriers were £60 +vat each from TSR.
  4. Right, got my big brakes on over weekend and the car stops amazingly. I did them all myself so here are the parts you require if you want to copy me. Front: 280mm discs from a Golf/Corrado G60. (I have black diamond vented & cross drilled ones). Golf/Corrado G60 pads. (I have Pagid ones). Golf/Corrado G60 calliper carriers. You do not need callipers. The G60 ones I was sent are the same as std Lupo gti ones so dont bother. Rear: 239mm discs std size. (I have black diamond cross drilled ones). Lupo Gti pads. (I have Pagid ones). It took me about 5 hours to do them all but i am very particular about cleaning everything before i refit it to the car. I also had to grind the front calliper carriers to clear my wheels and then paint the new carriers red. Also you have to remove the rear wheel bearings and ABS hub and press them out the old discs then press them into the new discs. Confused me at first as i didnt expect to have to do this but its only a light press fit and will split under just hard rpressing with your hand. No big hydraulic press needed...phew.
  5. Think that closed off pipe is just a resonance tube. Its function is to quieten down the intake noise i think...just what you dont want!!!!!
  6. They look wuckin fickid. Once i recover from the shock of 600+ notes for my brakes i may well get some of them. Best lights so far and hey...no orange bits in them...yeah.
  7. Hey Fran sounds like your having a bad time with the car. Cant understand why it treats you so badly after how nice you have made it, clearly its not grateful of your modifications. The last point could be taken seriously though, why not find out how much more for the Gti 6 gearbox if it will fit ok.
  8. My airbox intake is open to the engine yes. Got 131bhp though with std filter in the box so cant be suffering too much!
  9. Can i have 1 stand pass for the Sunday please and 2 tickets. Cheers Matt. Let me know when and how much cash you want and ill send you a cheque like last year...if it is you that is doing the booking stuff. Darren
  10. Forgot to say. Dont worry that the small pipe that runs from the intake pipe to the engine cover is no longer on the car. It is only ducting warm air from above the exhaust manifold to the intake to help emmisions on cold start. Makes feck all difference i say to an injection car and mine has been like this for 20000 miles with no trouble at all, even goes for services with the intake pipe removed!
  11. 1. Remove the engine cover by pulling it upwards from the front (above the exhaust manifold). Then pull the cover forwards and its off. 2. The inlet pipe, expansion ipe and intake silencer is a 1 piece moulded pipe so it all comes off in 1 go as follows... 3. It is the big black pipe that goes into the airbox on the drivers side of the car and runs from the drivers side inner wing. 4. Remove the 2 small black screws (phillips head) that hold the intake pipe to the air box (they are about 2 inches down the pipe from where it meets the airbox. 5. Remove the 1 bolt that steadies the intake pipe to the car body. This is located in front of the drivers side front inner wing strut in the engine bay, its near the power steering fluid reservior. 6. Pull the pipe out of the inner wing (quite easy as its not attached that well). 7. Job done, the car will "induct" much louder and air flow to the airbox is also increased as the intake pipe has loads of nasty bends and diameter restictions. 8. Fit panel filter in airbox for more noise and better pick up throttle response.
  12. Had same problem. 2 screws under front part of cup holder tray and then 2 plastic hooks that just slide in at the rear once the screws are out. Remove cup holder tray and put some sound deadening between it and the underside of the dash. Then refit and the rattle should have gone. Problem is the clips holding the cup holder tray dont hold the cup holders tight to the dash so they rattle. By putting some sound deadening in the gap between the cup holders and the dash both parts fit tight and cannot rattle.
  13. I have a K&N panel filter in my Gti and have removed the intake silencer tubing and expansion pipe. It barks as loud as any induction kit and still has the airbox to shield the filter from hot air. Had 131bhp with the air intake silencer removed so probably a couple or one more with panel filter.
  14. Mine is the black car and it is lowered 65mm all round (was about 60mm in the photo). Think Fin's silver car is lowered about 60mm as well.
  15. Combined with my FK coilovers the Koni's are awesome. Ive had Spax and Apex before on other cars but the Koni's are the best yet. Wouldnt choose anything else now. Only downer is the rears have to removed from the car to adjust them.
  16. Hi, the black car is indeed mine. They are 7x17s with 205/40R17's. Front wings have both been ground and the plastic liners modified to clear the tyres better. Passenger front wheel rubs on footwell floor on full lock but thats it. Rear arches were untouched but i have 5mm spacers now both rears have been tickled so that they dont rub with a `car-full`. My wheels are 45mm offset (ie: 3mm further in that std so i had to grind my front callipers so the wheel hub cleared them). However this gives more arch clearance. Fin has 35mm offset (ie: 8mm further out than std) and i believe all his wheels rub. Fin has had his arches rolled so that may have cured the rubbing. Fin's wheels although the same design as mine look much fatter and give his car a better stance than mine as his look meaner!!!
  17. I went to inters this year...was excellent. All of us had a really good day. Matty organised it all though so if he posts here telling us who he spoke with then we can go from there. A few of us met at a travellodge on the way so we could convoy the rest of the journey to inters...that was a laff cos i overtook everyone thinking i knew the way but i didnt...then i had to look a prat as i slowed down and let everyone past me again. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> I even witnessed someone wash their car with a SUPERSOAKER...you know who you are! style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  18. Wow thats expensive. My 10000mile service was free on demand as the dealer had messed me about so not sure what that should have cost. My 20000mile service after 1year only cost me £120 and they took ages as i make them take loads of care with the car.
  19. Fran, Loud, Just cos you havnt done anything drastic on your car for a while doesnt mean its old hat. Both your cars are still amazing even if they have been in their current state for a while. Some of us in the club have had our cars modified for ages and they remain pretty much unchanged from show to show. Its only really when you first get the car that it constantly changes. My car is the same as it was a Gti inty last year except for purple xenon look sidelights, GM short aerial and the big chimneys out back. Ive nearly done all i want to it except the 2 most expensive mods...leather & throttle bodies so it will remain unchanged for abit longer still. Fran,Loud...both your cars stand out for originaity reasons. Fran has a wicked colour and kit and Loud is the only `non-gti` with 17s and a whacking loud sound system sqeezed inside.
  20. They did my brakelight under warranty. It may only be the bulb that has gone (which isnt under warranty) but the fault was caused by a water leak (which is under warranty).
  21. How about saving a few more quid and doing the twin webbers thing (or throttle bodies if you want to keep the injection). You have done so many mods to your car I can hardly thing of where you could go next apart from some big tuning. £300, that may be nearly enough for a pair of cams actually...get searching girl.
  22. The last post did it for me. I am definetelly going. By the way girls, if its a particularly cold night then my house in only 18miles away from the show so we could retreat to the warmth... style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  23. Keep us posted when the "samples" arrive then as i think ill be on the orders list as well once i can be suire it will fit with everything in the original position under the bonnet.
  24. Funny that mate cos my Gti went in the dealer about 2 weeks ago for EXACTLY the same fault. They had to fit a new brake light cos the connection was rusty as well. Like yourself i also wondered how the light came out the spoiler and it seems its screwed in from the back but you cant even see the fixings (let alone get to them) until you have removed the spoiler from the bootlid. When they fit it all back together make sure they seal the spoiler on properly as the cause of my brakelight failure was water getting under (then into the spoiler) when i opened the boot and all the water from the boot ran up the glass and under the spoiler.
  25. QUOTE]Does anyone else have the problem of other drivers "flashing" them as they think I have my lights on main beam? It is really annoying and have started driving with my left hand on the left stalk waiting to "blind" them, when anyone does it.
