  1. TomStevo how much you looking for the manifold and throttle body?
  2. Yeah i know what im letting myself in for dont worry.. I have done a good few turbo conversions on cars in the garage over the last two years and they turned out very good. The reason behind the TDI turbo is just to give the engine a little push at lower RPM then the normal petrol turbocharger (not really looking for mad speed, if i wanted that i would just go down the 20v Turbo road with the loop). I know i would be needing uprated (preferably forged) pistons and con rods. would also require harder compound shells and rings, but these are parts that generally get changed over with a turbo conversion anyway so didn't think them worth mentioning. I don't really know for sure yet if i can be bothered with the turbo, it was just a thought. Mainly after the safe cc and cylinder diameter the engine can be bored out to the now, will deal with the turbo if i decide on it later on. You's are quite right and thank you for pointing out about the ECU remap not being sufficient with the turbo. But it should still perform good enough with a remap with just the Boring out being done should it not? I know this sounds like a daft idea... but basically what i am wanting to do is see what good i can make of a AHW engine as i have only ever heard bad things from both owners and VW mechanics/technicians. And tbh i haven't had a good time with my own either. Thanks again for the help guys! keep it coming!
  3. Right here is the current plan with my lupo and im hoping some of you can help me out with specifics. The piston rings are pretty much gone now and believe it or not the loop is burning a litre of oil every week. I was planning on binning the current engine and putting a modified 1.6 8v out of a golf mk2 that i have into it....but the swap over in the end seems to be more hassle then it worth. But my Father (myself and my father own a garage) suggested breaking out the boring gear and re-boring the current engine to a bigger cc...then going all out on it (bigger pistons, rings, enlarging throttle body, port and polish head, bigger valves, possibly a turbo, injectors, cams, chip, uprated oil pump(if turbo involved), re-map, flywheel and clutch). Now this is an idea that has properly grabbed my attention as you can imagine!! IF turbo involved then i am wanting to use a TDI turbo as this will give more practical everyday use and reduce the pain in the ass aka turbo lag! I don't need to worry too much about what manifold will fit as we have all the machinery and equipment necessary to make a custom stainless system if it comes to that. Has anyone got any info as to what cc the cylinders can safely be bored out to on the 75HP engines (AHW engine code)? And if anyone has done this before... Where did you buy your pistons and rings? What cams did you use? What chip is best to use? GTi injectors? And what was the final power?? Any other info is more then welcome! When work goes ahead i will post a build thread on here with pics of the progress. Thanks in advance! Kev
  4. Dolce and Gabbana because of the no plate T475 DGB others refer to it as Lucy the Lupo or wee gay red car But i always name cars....mainly try to make the name out if the No. plate letters though.
  5. 1.Price of petrol you use - £1.28 / litre 2.How many liters did you put in - to the neck 3.What kind of petrol you use - regular BP 95 4.what kind of lupo you own - 1.4 16v E 5.how many miles you get - 250 6.motorway or town driving - mostly all town with a lot of short runs thrown in
  6. This happened to me a few months ago on my 1.4. After a hour of tests it turned out to be the throttle position sensor which is built into the throttle body. Tried cleaning it out and it worked fine for a week but then started its nonsense again. Bought another one from VW and fitted it and has been spot on ever since. Hope this helps.
  7. I have a Golf Mk2 1.6 8v carb engine (found in Driver and CL models) that i want to put into my lupo (1.4 16v E) as i have spent a lot of money on the golf engine and it putting out an estimated 130BHP. Also the piston rings have pretty much gone now on the lupo engine and i don't think it worth fixing. Does anybody know if the Gear Box off the lupo will fit onto the golf engine and how to go about wiring in rev counter ect? I know i will need to make engine mounts specially for the conversion and have all the necessary equipment to do so. I don't want to put the golf gear box on as the gear linkages are different and would involve more work as would need to convert to cable speedo then as well. If gearbox fits on without any major hassles or can get a gear box easily that will do the job i will go ahead with the conversion and post all updates on the build thread. Any help appreciated Kevin
  8. LMAO...i just bought that policy on tuesday! my mate found it on a vectra forum, now myself and 5 of my mates have it and two of them are driving 2.0 20V's and one got a turbod 2.0!! we all got the policys for £202 each fully comp with all the trimings, inc unlimited insurance abroad!! got it all checked out with a lawyer aswell, they are legally bound to honour the poilcy as long as you havent lied about anything!!!
  9. I know this might put you off a fair bit, but i am up in the western isles in north west scotland. it has 87K on the clock and i was looking for around £2000 for her. so much were u looking for your car?
  10. I am seriously considering selling on my pride and joy 1.4E lupo, in order to get a sport or preferably a GTI in red, black or silver. It is a 1999 (T Reg) red lupo. Has just over 86K on the clock, but starts no bother even in the coldest of mornings. I am paying £550 a year for the insurance on it and tax is cheap. fuel goes far in this car-but still has plenty of guts! Drives as straight as an arrow, with no shakes or wobbles at all. Had two new front tires put on about a month ago, and had the wheel alignment done while she was in, got invoice coming to over £100. One of the timing belt guide wheels shattered causing the timing belt to snap about four months ago. The engine was reving very low at the time, but still needed all 16 valves replaced, so all the oil seals in the head got done at the same time, along with new head stretch bolts(obviously), head gasket, manifold gaskets and o-rings and had the head skimmed as well. it was all done professionally and have receipts and invoices, coming to over £400. There is also receipts for a lot of work that the previous owner had done to it. Bad points - Dodgy wire in temp sensor plug, still on steel wheels with wheel trims, has a wee bit of surface rust coming through on the hinge on the rear drivers side window, there was really crappy neons put on the car before i got it by the previous owner but they can be removed on request. As you can see, there has been a lot of money spent on this car before and since i got it, with all off the receipts. And there has not been a dry Sunday afternoon gone past that it has not received a polish up. It has been taken great care of. Photo's can be put up if anyone fancies a look. The back lights that are on it will be taken off and the standard ones put back on, sorry. I would consider anyone that is looking for a part exchange themselves to a slightly smaller car. If you want any other info, don't hesitate to get in touch. Looking for around £2000 for her. Thanks for looking Kev
  11. you only need a tool for the two gears on the cams. i did mine and my dad (who owns a garage, incase u think we are a bunch of cowboys:P) used 2 drill bits the right size for the hole in the gears to lock them on the right timing. thats about all u need mate, nothing too it. the crankshaft gear has a dot or a line on it that lines up with a mark on the block (the Top Dead Center mark) and it doesnt matter for the water pump. hope that was of some use to you. good luck mate
  12. well mate, i have a 1.4E lupo in red.....and have been looking for a GTI myself. i am 18 with no claims or anything else and i am paying £500 a year with 3rd party through NFU. and cheap as **** to run on fuel, but still lots of guts. if you havent got anything else yet and fancy it let me know and i am sure we could arrange something.
  13. yeah, drum breaks on the back of it.... so dont think that will work. cheers for the offer though mate. it just the hoses i am after, i am starting properly dubbing it out, but trying to start from the inside and work my way out.....if that makes sence? lol and trying to do it in stages as it is my main car the now......and dont fancy getting the bus!
  14. hi, well i am 18 now, and had my 1.4E lupo since i passed 4 months after i was 17. i was paying £500 a month with a company called NFU with my mother as main driver and 3rd party cover. but i think NFU are only in scotland, but i am not entierly sure. good luck mate
