Yep, im in Christchurch, I ve just noticed you are in Dorchester, I was over that way a few weeks ago for an interview at county hall.

Ordered today from Breeze VW, apparently the lense is included, it came to a few pence over £35 inc the connector.

They are quite good in there, been servicing my families cars for years. The MOT is coming up shortly, hence my reason for looking into it, I know some places will pass it with it non working and others won't. I was going to seal the spoiler to the car when I remove it with some marine spec stuff, I just want to make sure I could remove it again incase it was to fail in a year or so's time! I was half tempted to remove the light and get it smoothed and resprayed as its a complete PITA, not sure what that would do for the resale values though.

Cool, cheers for the info, when I collected the car they apologised and said they broke the outer lense and took me out and showed me it and asked what I wanted them to do about it, I said not to worry as I would be replacing the whole unit anyway, they knocked a fair chunk off the price of the service anyway -enough to pay for the new unit

Basically like every other GTi the shitty 3rd rear brake light had never worked, it was in for his 40k service. Anyway they thought they would try and be helpful and clean up the contacts on the 3rd rear brake light but didn't realise you had to remove the spoiler to access it, they put a little crack in the lense and told me about it when i collected the car. I was planning on replacing the whole unit anyway so I couldn't care less, I just wanted to check a new lense came as part of the unit. Its not iffy at all, its a local VW specialist I have used for years, a company that actually believes in customer service unlike the main dealers, they tried to do me a favour its not their fault its a **** design. Anyway back to the original question does a new lense come as part of the kit?

I took the car into the garage today for a service and they noticed the high level rear brake light wasn't working, anyway they tried to access it from the outside thereby cracking the lense. I ve found out the replacement part number for the new unit but does anybody know if that includes the lense?

I would be interested to see some pictures of this, sounds mint!

Cool, hopefully mine may be relegated to weekend toy status soon Im debating coilovers or a just set of Eibachs, it seems you get what you pay for with the coilovers from what i ve read so KW's or H&Rs would be needed, I guess around £600 before fitted..

Mines a tiny bit out and has never been on coilovers as far as im aware, it doesn't pull either way, it just defaults to maybe 5 degrees off centre.

Which are the ones to buy? They range from £250ish for the PhilJ ones upto £750 for H&R's...

Having viewed it with Pepsi at the weekend I can confirm its very tidy, full main dealer service history they even bought the tyres from VW! Original invoice was circa £16k+ new. He got a bargain as well!

Thats sound about right, the condition is the main thing its got going for it, I would probably go out on a limb and say its one of the best condition Lupo Gti's for its year out there. The interior is also unmarked, never been smoked in, with the private plate on it most people think its an 04 plate, no one can believe me when I say its a Y reg.

Lol@ Will Its a five speed remember. No options as far as im aware, it certainly hasn't got air con. The tyre foam etc and air compressor is all mint and present, its been enthusiast owned all of its life. Its actually on 38k atm, but i expect it to be nearer 40k when i come to sell. I don't really want to sell it but I may well be doing a job that requires doing lots of miles so I aim to get a shed, would be a shame to pile the miles on a mint example like this.

Toying with selling my Gti in a month or so, its a 2001 Y reg model, 5 speed, in red, just under 40k, unmarked mint condition (not a single parking dent). Its got full VW main dealer service history and has had the cambelt and tensioners changed just under a year ago. Will have a full service and MOT prior to sale at my VW specialist. Private plate not inc. It has also been machine polished (pc'd) and will receive a full detail prior to sale. All 4 tyres are only 5k old. What do you reckon its worth. Heres a few pics so you get the idea although im sure you all know what a red gti looks like! Its standard by the way.

Cheers, I did like the feature however a friend of mine rolled his car recently and the battery became dislodged, the car caught fire and they couldn't get out. I know in the lupo in that situation the doors will open if you pull the handle twice, however thats not so great if your unconscious. I think I will just turn it on when im driving through a dodgy area rather than have it activated the whole time.

Is it easy to do?

Hi guys, my central locking on my gti is set to lock after you go above a certain speed 6mph? it unlocks when you take the key out or if you pull the handle twice you can open that door, or alternatively you can unlock it using the button on the drivers side. I want to turn this off, any ideas?
