  1. if it all goes into gear ok with the engine off then your linkages should be ok, if you have trouble with the engine running but you find you can find the sweet spot on the rev range to shift gears then its most likely the synrcos in the gearbox are worn
  2. first thing to do is drain the gearbox oil and have a good look, its a good indicator on the condition of the box, any large bits is bad news you maybe low on oil, only real way to tell is drain it and measure what you get out, your looking for 2.7 litres, when i did mine the levels were spot on unfortunaty you could hear the bits landing in the bucket, this turned out to be a really bad sign for me and a major gearbox rebuild
  3. its called a current rail
  4. as you have replaced the relay with one with a different pin layout I would have a really good look at the original relay and take it apart, when i had a very similar problem i pulled my relay, took it apart and found one of the pins with a broken soldered joint, resoldered stuck it back in and been running without any problems (except rear beam, gearbox, brakes, etc ,etc) since June last year
  5. you problem defo shouts 109 relay, from memory the relay should have 4 pins on it
  6. do they work when you put the key in the lock and unlock the car and hold in the unlock postion, and when you lock the car hold in the lock postion for a few seconds
  7. if it goes into gear nice and smooth with the engine off then your clutch and linkages should be fine, if it fusses when the engine is running then that is a gearbox issue and in your case worn synchros or worn gears as was my problem
  8. you should be able to sneak the wire under the seal on the pillar side as its rubber and flexible
  9. if the matrix has gone the window never clears as your blowing water vapour at it
  10. Don't forget dash cams can work both ways and if your having a conversation with a passenger and its recorded just before and accident it could easily be turned around and they say you were not concentrating on your driving and your own evidence can be used against you, simple solution is make sure the sound is off on another note down where I live you only need to make a complaint against a another driver and the police send them a letter so different police forces have different ways of dealing with this sort of thing
  11. you would be surprised what they miss on a MOT, mine was missed and was only picked up a day later when it went in for a free brake test, on the mot all they whined about was the fact the car was lowered and the rear springs can fall out when the car is jacked up, they also missed the defective rear seat belt and the number plate light was out one side check my mot post, its got some nice clear pictures of what you don't want to see
  12. Check the bushes on the rear beam, not really a mod but a few including myself have have to replace the rear beams due to really bad corrosion around the really important bits of the beam so you don't want to be modding when you have possible repairs
  13. wouldn't rush out and buy one until you have confirmed the old has failed, nothing worse than buying parts you don't need I think when mine failed one of the symptoms was a glow coil light that flashed for about a fraction of a second, I could predict when the engine would start as when the glow coil light stayed of for a longer time it always started
  14. have you tried someone pushing down on the bonnet, then pull the release lever, hold it out then release the pressure on the bonnet also worth checking the bonnet is fully closed and hasn't got caught halfway on the release
  15. you sure the bonnet has not already popped and you just need to feel for the release lever under the bonnet it self
  16. I'm pretty sure I ran a wire along that for a mic on a handsfree kit so it was a thin wire i just lifted rubber up on the A pillar side (used a trim tool)and tucked the wire in, but this was a thin wire, what you planning to run up it?
  17. here the link to my post when i had problems with my 109 relay
  18. there is a relay above the fuses from memory its the one marked up 109 you can see it just hiding behind a wiring loom, its a pig to get to when the dash is all fitted
  19. you don't, it stays in place only thing you have to do there is pop the front tweeter out and disconnect
  20. I'm gonna guess at linkages, the box itself just has a single gear change selector that pushes in and out and rotates, its pretty solid and its though the linkages to convert the gear changes into this in/out and rotate motion, if the gear changes are smooth and the box is quiet then gearboxes are pretty honest bits of kit as they complain when things ain't right and you would have more issues then play in the gearstick on the linkages, from memory 2 points of adjustment, they should be fixed and not slide in the grove they sit in, yours simply may have loosened of and the play your feeling is the sliding in the groove, if one is loose center the stick in neutral and tighten up at that point, it makes much more sense when you look at the linkages
  21. no trims, just painted metal, unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean
  22. best thing is get underneath and take a look at the linkages, you may be able to make a adjustment to take up the play, its helps to have a friend wriggle the gearstick so you can see which linkage moves on the sideways motion
  23. official answer is yes, no-one ever bothers though but if you do pull the battery negative first then positive
  24. finally Lupo passed the MOT...eventually, took it to a just mot center, they failed it on rear seat belt and number plate light, 2 more things halfords missed, anyway easy solution new bulb for number plate and apparently if you remove the rear seats the rear belts don't need checking, bit like a spare tire, if its there its got to comply if not then no worrys
