That early should have an isv internally on the tb.

Go to a motor factors. Buy a can of carb cleaner. Remove Intake pipe. Spray carb cleaner whilst someone revs the engine. Reattach pipe and have a good time. Old car, old fix, used to be a common one back in the day.

When once doing a shifty GTi conversion into a 1.4 I used the GTi loom and had this, I just twisted some wire in and forgot about it till now.

Can't you just change the bushes? That whole 3L thing looks awkward and you'd have to source a GTi or TDI subframe as replacement.

My GTi rack was worn, it felt grumbly. Knocking is usually the tie rods, not the ends, but my old GTi rack did have an internal knock, hence the replacement.

This makes selling mine for a bit sound promising.
