  1. just removed my two front bearings using ebay kit. Wouldn't budge at 1st despite heat and liberal soaking i was thinking my tool would strip too. Went on interwebs and found video of tool in use and noticed he was using the 62mm bush not the snugger 65mm like i was. Magic then happened: there's a step there, so i think the 65mm bush was hooking up on it despite being nearly the same size as the bearing. Circlips are a b4stard, you need to wack them down, soak them and heat them, then pry a bit at a time, 2nd one had rusted eye.
  2. very likely, but he said he doesnt think pedal position has changed. I was under the impression the pedal dropped a bit when the pedal box failed, but it could just be failing and not yet failed enough for the pedal to move?
  3. Cable stretched or about to break? where's the bite point? You need some eyes on the clutch arm on the box while the pedal is slowly pressed to see what is going on.
  4. ^what he said^ SDI has the sh1t3 085 gearbox too. Plus TDI can be remapped easily and cheaply to 100+HP.
  5. Need both front bearings. There's some pricey, not so pricey and some damn cheap front bearings on ebay. Do I take a punt on the sub £9 ones, play it safe in the £16 bracket or go all out at £27 a side? Anyone fitted el cheapo bearings and they lasted ok?
  6. Has the pedal up position moved down? Or stayed the same? Is it cable or hydraulic?
  7. I like a challenge, i retain £30 tax without having to duck and dive, plus it will handle better with a 3 pot. Will probably do a 4 pot at some point though.
  8. They slip when the torque gets much beyond 250nm and heavy duty clutches are slim pickings and expensive for them, 4 pot flywheel and clutches gives bigger clutch and cheaper HD options. I think the 138HP one on here a few years back used G60 flywheel and clutch and standard 02J box if I remember right so I can make do with just flywheel and clutch. http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?/topic/78710-seat-arosa-14-tdi-1749v-138-hp-212-lbft/
  9. Just want one that can take a 4 pot flywheel and clutch for now, so if my 02J can i'll stick with that. I have an 02R box here as well off a BNV.
  10. Shan't. It has one too many cylinders. What 1.9 gearboxes go on the 3 pot? And what would fit in lupo?
  11. Will be sticking with the 3 pot engines, some dude in Portugal got silly figures from one: Say Whaaaaaaat!
  12. Take out the oil pressure switch (that turns on your oil warning lamp) and test it it on a bench or just buy a new one for about £10 and fit that. Check the wiring to the switch while there. If no change then oil pump or blocked strainer in sump. Or just a worn engine that would be much happier with thicker oil in it to allow for the wear. I have no idea where the pressure switch is but likely on the block or head with a single wire to it.
  13. Man he was asking for a roasting here and no one jumped in, I am impressed with your restraint guys.
  14. Me personally, i wouldn't bother if it's like for like, or close enough, but you are supposed to tell them about any engine changes including engine numbers etc so my question was if you told them even though they are the same engine would that bump the tax to £150? It should following their "logic". Man my avatar is annoying, changing it now...
  15. Sooo now a small part of my tiny mind wonders what happens if I (was stupid enough to) tell them I have changed the engine to another 1422 CC TDI engine and provide proof it came from an audi A2, a Seat Arosa, a Seat Ibiza, a Skoda Fabia or another Lupo TDI. Would that default to £150 tax as it is a change of engine? Just covering my bases here....
  16. It's slower than my black one by a long shot btw. Edit: found boost leak and vaccum leak today so not a fair comparison tbh....
  17. Yes shame about the tax, for some reason that option never even crossed my tiny mind, but they have to really as they cant assess the emissions on a conversion so just default back to basing it on engine size. Yep I can see the appeal of not declaring a 1.9tdi now but a dim view would be taken of the VED fraud if found out so that is not for me. The car is ripe for a conversion due to all the faults on it, but it would be a waste of the car to do that given the tax hike and the tdi USP of £30 tax. Will have a think, but probably just end up repairing and driving it as it is a better shell than my black one and will look out for a cheap petrol Lupo now for a silly conversion.
  18. Ok I have the answer as I just phoned DVLA, it reverts to pre 2001 method of engine size under or over 1549 cc so £150 or £245. Bottoms.
  19. Can you be more specific as to why you think so? I'll probably have to contact DVLA and ask them about this but I have a strong feeling I'd get a different answer depending on who I spoke to.
  20. Indeed it was. £215 quid with £200 set of wheels in the boot as well. I gave him £220 as I felt bad. Gear selection dodgy, make that extremely dodgy (will look at turret) massive amounts of camber with knackered front wheel bearings (no surprise there), knackered front drive shaft (due to previous silly lows and hitting chassis), brake vacuum had a mind of it's own. Just looking for clarification on the tax front before decisions get made.
  21. Got a 2nd Lupo TDI with £30 tax now and looking for some confirmation of what happens to VED after an engine conversion before i go down that road with it. I have seen conflicting info on this so far, but so far I think it stays at £30 as that is what is on the V5C as the emissions band regardless of what i put in it. (unless electric and i want an inspection to get it to £0 tax i guess) Sooo, if i stick a 4 pot tdi or a 1.8T etc in it, will that **** up my £30 tax band?
