Gti exhaust covering my boot in black stuff?
jon_273 replied to Benjamin's topic in Car Care, Maintenance and Mechanical
Not necessarily oil, touch the spots with your finger and see if it rubs away, could be unburnt hydrocarbons of the engine is running too rich. -
Yes, I mean the radiator fan too. It could well be the fan relay at fault, but they aren't cheap to replace which is why I'd say checking for fault codes first. Also, I wouldn't bother buying a cheap one off ebay unless you know it's genuine, a friend of mine spent ages trying to fix the A/C on his GTI and the new non-genuine relay was the problem! EDIT: I assume by "nothing has arisen" then you mean there are no fault codes. So it's probably not low system pressure prenting it working.
-
The fan not running could be that the low speed resistor had burnt out. That won't stop the A/C working, unless your stationary and there's no airflow going through the A/C condenser. You need to get it scanned with VCDS and check for any fault codes relating to the A/C.

Looks very smart, and I like the alcantara touches on the interior too. But I do like them when they look standard also, like in the pic above . Did you have spacers on the back?
-
I've been reading up on the kit on A2OC.net. I've being saying for about 5 years that it could do with a 6th gear, so this yes this kit is perfect! But now the TDI is not my daily I can hardly justify it. Hmmm.....
-
It depends how worn the original ones are.
-
Are you just changing 5th?
-
Have you bought another one? I like the red carbon trim around the heater control by the way .
-
Hi, it's an EXB gearbox, the gear ratio chart would be appreciated. Jon

Just replace the rear front wishbone bushes, since those are the ones that tend to wear out. Powerflex are probably the best choice, reasonable price and a straight fit.
-
How muh torque is the kit rated for?
-
Same here. I've Always wanted to see it done though. 170bhp and a fifth cylinder sounds good to me!
-
Oh so they are bolt on spacers. They must be the narrowest bolt on ones available are they?
-
is this an MOT failure ?
jon_273 replied to andy4976's topic in Car Care, Maintenance and Mechanical
They do -
I had 20mm's on with the Starlites which are wider anyway and it rubbed a fair bit. I might wait till you get your 17mm's on and see how you get on. What make are they? Nope, just the GTI's. It's not that the rear is narrower, it's that the front is wider.
-
As the rear track on a GTI is 10mm narrower that the front on each side, I am looking for 10mm hubcentric spacers, but they all seem to be for front axle only (I presume the spigot on the rear hub is deeper). What do people recommend, 8mm flat spacers or 15mm hubcentrics? Pics would help!

Good to hear it went well! They are loads better after a decent remap in my experience. Here are my results for comparison: http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?/topic/34101-das-auto/?p=581630

I was going the other way, and spotted the Xenons a mile off!

Nice to see it being restored to original spec. I'm doing the same with mine at the moment.

I bet there aren't many Lupo's out there that still have those fitted! I've got a set in the garage somewhere, I took them off in the end as I kept losing them to garages when getting new tyres fitted.

Mine was mapped on regular Shell diesel (Diesel Extra as it was called at the time), I did think of filling it with V-Power but didn't plan on using it all the time. Who knows if it makes a difference... If you read up on the Shell website they only really promote the cleaning properties of V-Power Diesel, and don't say a lot about enhanced performance like they do with V-Power petrol. I used to sue Forte Diesel Treatment so already had the fuel system cleaning covered. You can also spray air intake cleaner into the inlet with the engine running. Get someone to hold it at about 2krpm and spray in bursts downstream of the MAF sensor. Make sure you post your graphs up when it's done!

In a word, yes! -
Climate Control Retrofit
jon_273 replied to patroddy's topic in Car Care, Maintenance and Mechanical
It'll be loads of work if you don't already have A/C. You'll need the airbox from the climate control car too, not to mention the air con compressor, bracket, heat exchangers and pipework... -
Don't think there was a BCA in a Lupo. There was a BBY whick MkIV's also used, but it's different - the started motor is on the other side apparently. Just because it's the same engine code doesn't mean the block is the same. Lupo GTI and Polo GTI AVY engines are different for example.
