  1. I didnt grind the valves. Gave the head to a mate and he checked for leaks and there was a lot so he did it all for me again. Yay. Im getting there, if i didnt have other cars to get to work it would be sorted by now.
  2. I looked through the thread and stuck on the first step lol. I can see the bottom pulley but on mine theres no allen key bolts. What do i do?
  3. Havent got time to have a good look through the forum at the moment. Can someone point me in the right direction to a thread about how to change the cam belt and time the engine? 1.4 if there different.
  4. haha, but it was ok to drive an unsafe car? You swapped a crap car for a crap car, sounds fair?
  5. Cam belt went a while ago, got the money to fix it, just not all the knowledge. Took all the valves out, got new ones, put them all back in, ****ed about with collets for a while, everythings great. Got a new gasket set and i find these VALVE STEM OIL SEALS, bugger. So i take a valve out again and figure out where they go, ****ing collets need taking off and on again. Do i need to change them. Do i just pull them out to change them? and push the new ones in? Any help is appreciated.
  6. It was all going well, everything was loose but the head just wouldnt come off. So i un did everything as i was just getting annoyed with it. Then when everything was undone, i managed to lift it all out but there was a wire going to a plug which i couldnt undo, as i was swearing at that i found one bolt i missed (see pic) undid that and hey presto it fell apart, head out. Right under that red circle, theres two bolts, i could only see one of them. thats not my engine. Its been a fun 3 days, most of the engine is back together again, although i may just buy a cheap 106 or saxo and scrap the lupo. sorry.
  7. hmmmm, that looks a bit better then the valve spring compressor i have, sorry i should have said ive already tried a valve spring compressor but the one i have doesnt seem to fit, thought there might be a special vw one
  8. All my engine is in bits, all because i coudnt find a bolt, anyway.... How do i remove the valves? Do i need some special tools? Thanks
  9. If i was you id see which was cheaper to insure and pick that one. For a decent Lupo, they are over 1k, for a rubbish one about £700 Just get a rubbish ka for a year or two, build some ncd and then get something different. Thats the common sense route.
  10. My cam belts gone and im in the process of taking the engine apart to check the valves. Is there a guide to doing this with pics? as at the moment im just undoing bolts and things that i can see, which i know isnt the brightest thing to do but i always like to do it the hard way first then the right way. Thanks
  11. I thought of this first but it was never running properly in the first place, it always had a misfire, piston gone (never found out) unless it was the cambelt killing it slowly. I dont know. Anyway ive always wanted to do a engine change so this seems like the perfect chance. A mate has told me to get a 1.9tdi pd130 which would make it fly around and get 70mpg lol. But im worried its going to cost me a lot more to do it. After i got the engine wiring loom and gearbox what else would i need? bigger brakes and suspension? hmmmm
  12. Oh dear, went out the other day, car worked fine, tried to go to work on thursday and it wouldnt start ( Havent had chance to look at it till today and ive found out the problem was............... no teeth on the cam belt - boooooo! hmmmmm, quite gutted but hey ho wasnt a bad run £250 for the car, had to spend probs £70 on parts and it lasted 11 months. Best thing about it was most definatly the hand brake turns!! Now, do i put a 1.8t in it, fix it or buy a new (2nd hand) car?
  13. seems to be every day on the m1 these days. I must just live near all the stupid tossers that dont understand when a FOG light is needed. It gets right on my man boobs. Isnt it when you cant see 100m in front of you that they should be used?
  14. sorted, a 19mm socket fitted straight over.
  15. I need to borrow a locking wheel nut. Im guessing there all going to be different but im hoping there all the same. Smashed into a kerb yesterday morning and my steering is messed up. Been to the garage and they cant align them because i have the spare on, asked them to change that with the old alloy but i dont have the locking wheel nut to take them off. Many thanks.
  16. lol, thanks! Cheers for the link LoopEd
  17. Was looking at getting a different car but then thought, how about awapping the engine. What engines can i put in? and What performance would i be looking at getting from it? also, if anyones done it before, how much roughly did it cost you?
  18. I got R5NAY for my 21st bday (fist name is Nathan), Ive also got L12XTT for my 300zx tt, the L1 doesnt mean anything but i love it. Im saving up for another but its an 11 plate so i wont really be able to put it on a car that i really want, as they are all older then 2011 and i cant afford a 2011 car or newer .
  19. Went out yesterday evening, heaters on full blast, everything ok. Noticed on the way home that the temp gauge was on rock bottom. Tried it again today and its still at the bottom, put the heaters on and its getting warm but not hot (the fans, not the gauge) the gauge moved up a touch then dropped back to the bottom. Everythings at the right levels. What could be wrong? thermostat? or just the gauge? And where is the thermostat?
  20. Was cleaning the car a while back and took the ash tray out, behind is a purple plug. Whats it for?
  21. I was expecting something a lot worse from all the comments. God knows how hes spent 22k on it, wide arch kit, way too much flake paint and a bad boy bonnet and an amazing sound system with no pics of it. Im guessing the 22k is including the price of the car when he bought it?
  22. Does anyone know what the mpg is in them with the average person behind the wheel?
