  1. ...not sure if this has been discussed, but are Lupo's and in my case the Gti windscreen prone to chips or have I been unlucky to find myself with 4 chips? Nothing that would fail an MOT and I'm going to get a new Gti windscreen soon while can still get hold a proper VW one with the correct outer shading and thickness. But basically are they prone to chipping, I've had my Gti nearly a year and it had 3 on it when i got it and I've since got the forth.
  2. It was taken to: Abbey Auto Electrical Fynway, Durham, DH7 6LP 0191 371 2336 ‎
  3. Was getting a tow to a garage in Sacriston - it's face was all burnt and had a whopping explosion hole in the bonnet - looked in a right mess and almost certainly a write off :-( God knows whats happened to it!
  4. Brilliant example - good luck with the sale.
  5. I've had it happen in various cars over the years, usually nothing to worry about and just a random fuel/crap in the system that I assume puts its self right. Just monitor and don't worry.
  6. love is an understatement, but I imagine they will refurb nice
  7. It is probably fine as since changing the battery it has been driven all weekend and no problems - but by process of elimination for the original problem, I did wonder if it was an alternator fault after all it is 10 years old. So I may as well ask the garage to check it out when its in for it's MOT.
  8. Just though I'd share this experience as it may help someone searching the forum if they have the same issue. My ten year old GTi that I’ve now had for about 5 months, is kept in garage and comes out most weekends – it had been about 2 weeks since the last outing and went to start car and it was a dead – not a flicker – anyhow I rolled it down the drive and it bump started into life at the first attempt and was fine while driving about all that weekend. Next outing from week resting up in the garage – dead again, tried to bump start, nothing – so jump leads out and it fired up straight away. So I got a new battery as the old one was still the original VW battery - I could tell as the retainer arm had not a scratch on the fastening nut and there is no way you can remove it without making some sort of scuff! Everything is fine now and have been driving round all weekend – happy as anything Although I still have a slight nag that the alternator is on it’s way out – but I’ll get that checked out when its gets MOT in September.
  9. Front and rear end crumpled, on hard shoulder, police and ambulance in attendance - hope no one was seriously injured. I was on my way to work about 7.40am ish - always horrible when you see the aftermath of a smash

I'd probably go for a classic 70's VW colour - like chrome yellow or the brilliant orange.
  11. cheers, gti is such a nice motor and so much fun, the bridge repairs have gone on for ages - I'm just glad i'm heading east in the morning as the westbound tailbacks are sometimes horrendous! As long as I get another job in the not too distant future (could take a year or so to get something suitable maybe even longer ) I'll be Ok - bit of a bugger but yes these are hard times and will get even harder.
  12. Will do - I won't be travelling through to Shields for much longer as I'm getting made redundant But as I don't live a million miles from Chester le Street, you may see me bombing about in my GTi (http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=77567&st=0&p=913101&fromsearch=1entry913101) around the Chester le Street/Durham area at some point.
  13. I was in my Leon on my way to work in South Shields, the Lupo only comes out at weekends
  14. P4YNU ? Spotted at Port of Tyne roundabout the other day.

  16. with 72k on the clock then you need to find out if the cam-belt and water-pump have been done recently - Silver and 5 speed is common but nowt wrong with that, just give it a good inspection and the usual checking over as you would with any other car. There is a thread or two on this forum with hints and tips on what to look out for in general.
  17. What colour? Price is a tad on the high side but from a dealer with a warranty (check whats actually covered - some of these are restrictive) - considering it's age and with 60K on the clock the timing belt needs to have been done/will need doing - perhaps get the dealer to get it done as part of any negotiations.
  18. Obviously it depends on how well (or not) it's been looked after - assuming it's been serviced at the recommended intervals and has everything replaced at the recommend mileage/time duration - then a Lupo Gti engine should be good for at least double 90k without any major issues except for the usual replacements of worn items.
  19. Quick question, does anyone know if original leather seats exactly the same construction as the cloth ones, just leather instead of cloth on the seats? Or are the original leather seats a better seat all-round? If they are just the the same seats but with different covering then a re trim would be a good solution, but I suppose if you get a used set of leather for say 600 and then flog your cloth ones for say 200 you may just be looking at an overall cost of 400?
  20. Jesus Rich - thats a lot of money in products sat there doing nothing A bit OTT, but is always good to have a decent of cleaning and care products at your disposal.
