  1. OK, I fitted a double DIN unit a while ago, and trust me, it can be a bit of a pain, so if you don't mind a bit of it then read on. The FP-17-00 is kind of suitable, but there's a couple of problems with it (or at least on mine) that you can't see from the photo. Firstly, the one I bought was VERY tight around my unit, far too tight in fact. I actually didn't want to slide my device in due to fear of damaging it. Fix, easy enough, 2 minutes of sand paper on the inside. Just allows it to slide a little more. Plus, it doesn't need to be tight as you screw the device to the cage, which is reinforced when you clip it into the dash. It ain't going nowhere, trust me lol! Secondly, the one I bought was also too big for the gap in the dash board. I'd say 2-3mm plus which when you are trying to fit something into a precise hole is a huge amount. The fix was much harder, I had to take a heavy duty disk sander to both sides to make it fit. That included me sanding off the rails that sort of of guide it in. It's not a big issue because as I said, there are two large clips which secure it into place so actually, the slide rails do very little. I think they are just supposed to make sliding it into the hole a little bit easier, but to be honest, I have no problem sliding it in or out without. Definitely an important consideration, especially if yours turns out to be the same (the sanding I mean). Finally, in a somewhat, disasterous design move, the one I bought had a tiny lip on the inside of the hole all the way round. I have absolutely no idea who came up with that but he deserves to lose his job. As you can guess, the lip will prevent ANYTHING you slide in from looking flush with your dashboard and will recess it by a couple of mm's. It also makes certain devices completely inoperable as it may block the CD tray from ejecting or the loading mechanism from releasing. The fix for this was even harder. I had to take an angle grinder round the inside of my FP-17-00, to remove the lip. There's no way I could have done it with sand paper, there was simply too much plastic. It wasn't an easy job, and when it was finished, it wasn't as tidy as I'd liked, HOWEVER, my device came with a surround which clipped onto the front that covers it and now fitted, it looks wicked! Your experience may differ and tbh, I hope it does, but I was NOT impressed with my FP-17-00. I can't understand why I had to perform such drastic measures to make it fit, especially as it was advertised as specifically for the Lupo. The only thing I can think is if the design spec is licensed by Autoleads, as such manufacturers may produce cheap less precise copies and perhaps that is what mine turned out to be. By the way, be prepared for hair pulling with regards to space behind the device, you'll need to get quite inventive to hide wires and what not, but trust me, it's worth it :-) Anyway, hope this helps. Picture (sorry for the bloom, phone camera isn't great, screen doesn't normally look like that haha. Notice the surround around the edge of my device, which covers the work I had to do with the angle grinder. I'll take it off if I get chance later and take a picture for you):
  2. The car still running fine yes? Could be the temperature sensor. According to the guy who fixed mine, the temperature sensor has two readings, one to the ECU and one to the dash. On mine, the reading to the dash had packed up and he said it was quite common with old Lupos and Polos. New temperature sensor fixed it. Might be something else though so don't hold me to that.
  3. Not sure about the smoke but when my Lupo started hunting badly, cleaned the idle control valve and it was fine. Don't hold me to this though, was just in my case.
  4. Sounds pretty good actually. Did you try DirectLine? I've been with them since the day I passed and I really rate them.
  5. LOL!!!!! The mood has definitely lightened
  6. I was going to say, if it's just silencer packing it doesn't really matter does it? I assume it wouldn't affect back pressure if you removed it?
  7. Well, I think any garage would have quoted quite a bit but that said, most scrupulous garages phone you first, especially with older cars because some people just say **** it and write it off or sell it for parts.
  8. I know, it's **** and to be honest, if it was a 10 year old Peugeot 206 with 90k miles on the clock I'd say just scrap the ****er, but with it being a Lupo I'd say it's worth it. Obviously, that depends on the age of your Lupo, condition etc, because you might consider just getting another Lupo...Lupo's were a premium car made for an expensive market so they are well made, which is why I think spending a bit of money on them to keep them going is worth it. The Fox and even the Up (in my opinion) are made to a price and are not of the same quality of the Lupo.
  9. Like, seriously, what the hell is that? It looks like a piece off those Poundland halloween wigs.
  10. Thing is Miss, I know it's your boyfriends mates and all that, but a business is a business and even if he does it for parts + a few quid friends rate it flies up pretty quick. I assume he's using new OEM parts, not copies or scrappy? so again, you're going to be looking at a pretty healthy bill once all paid for a fitted. If you're attached to your Lupo, stick with it. Sometimes you get a pretty hefty bill, that's a life lesson about owning a car, but once paid and fixed your car might fly through the next 3 MOT's no bother. It's a gamble, all chance. Plus no car is the same and if you happen to have a dud then you're just unlucky. My car cost a lot to sort earlier this year because I have it serviced and MOT'd within a couple of weeks of each other. It required a bit of work in the service and then failed the MOT so required even more work. Probably came to about 500 quid approx. Since then, it's driven like an absolute beast and I pile the miles on it because it's daily to work everyday and I use it like a car, not an ornament. I've put on 10000 miles since February and it hasn't missed a beat. In fact, I imagine the service reminder will be coming on soon
  11. Wow, that's... erm... one way of looking at it lol.To your first one, I would be pretty irritated and while I haven't given anyone the **** sign, I have made comments before to people who have shoved past me as I'm about to pull something off the shelf yes. No, nothing perhaps as obviously insulting as the middle finger salute or anything like that, but a few weeks ago, a lady shoved past me with a pram as I was with my girlfriend and rolled the wheels over her feet and I actually said "excuse me wouldn't have hurt". So yes, I would say something if I felt it was necessary and that the person shoving past had intentionally done it and it wasn't just an accident. As for the second one, I'd say a similar answer again and this is a common one. Me and my girlfriend sometimes toodle along at a slower pace than absolutely rapid and sometimes you'll get some asshole right behind you huffing and puffing. The answer is not C obviously, so perhaps you've caught me there but the answer definitely ISN'T B. Firstly, I would not walk faster just because some turnip is right up my chuff and why the **** should I move to let them past? In a supermarket I imagine it's almost impossible to find a situation where you are stuck behind people walking incredibly slow. The isle's are huge. So even if we're walking slow, the people to the right or left of us are probably walking fast. Maybe I'm just a rude son of a bitch, but the end of the day, again, why should anyone be intimidated by someone being impatient. No doubt if the football was on I wouldn't be toodling along, I'd be running like everyone else and if someone was walking slow.......... I'd go round them wouldn't I?

When I asked Direct Line how much TPFT was, it came to about 15 pounds cheaper than comprehensive. Joke really.
  13. In all honesty scotty, if someone intentionally pushed in front of me while walking, yeah I would be a little bit irritated. It's rude. Okay, if they walk past me then walk in front fine, but the amount of times some pushy idiot has tried to shove me out the way and I've actually said something. So no, the scenario in my opinion is not different. The only difference is, if some idiot tries to push me out the way, the worst that can happen is I get irritated. In a car..Edit: I agree. I would not stop someone walking faster than me, but we don't have rules on the speed we can walk and we don't have rules that say we can't walk past someone on the left hand side of them. Those rules do exist on the road. You're muddying water by comparing something that isn't regulated by something that is.
  14. Lol!! Road trolling, I like that
  15. thanks everyone, bought the VAGCOM. decided the android app really wasn't worth it. Not going to increase my MPG exactly is it ?
  16. Agreed. It's a quirk. I don't really know how it works but that sounds right because to have MPG on, he has to switch GPS on his phone on. I imagine it does it using fuel consumption against distance covered GPS then? I've done a bit of googling about VAGCOM and OBD2 btw, I think I understand it a bit better now
  17. So if I bought a generic OBDII adapter and connected it to my PC, I should be able to use it?
  18. I thought they were different protocols and as such, required different cables/hardware to work? e.g. You need a VAGCOM specific cable for VAGCOM software and you need a OBDII adapter for OBDII and that they are not interchangeable?
  19. Okay, the video I attached doesn't really do it justice because the guy doesn't show the right things. My mate has it setup to calculate MPG based on speed, GPS(I think) and current fuel consumption and it seems incredibly accurate. He also has it reading off his Fuel Trims and Boost Gauge (obviously something I wont need)However scotty, what Im really looking for is the benefits of getting the VAGCOM? The Android app is just a quirk, and I know that, but if there's something majorly beneficial for the VAGCOM over the OBD2, on a car which has only the basic functionality I'll get the VAGCOM.
  20. I'm interested in buying an OBD2 adapter, mainly for the Android Torque app. It's a pretty neat app if you've ever come across it. My friend has a OBD2 adapter permanently installed in his car for this app and he has his phone sitting on his dash reading off various bits of information. It gives him real-time updates on car performance, fuel economy and engine management. Plus it reads off codes. It looks like quite a nice app. What I want to know is, if I buy an OBD2 adapter, I probably won't buy a VAGCOM as well, so what will I be losing? I read on another VW forum that VAGCOM's allow you read a tonne more information than OBD2 and change lots of vehicle specific settings. However, I don't know how much can be changed on my Lupo with it being the base model? It didn't come with most of the electrical gizmos like central locking or electric windows, so none of those can be changed. Also, VAGCOM won't work with Torque so this is mainly looking at the benefits of the VAGCOM as a standalone tool. For those who haven't seen Torque, heres a video:

I imagine that any springs that aren't factory OEM or aftermarket springs to the same spec will be considered a modification and as such would need to be declared, therefore your premium may go up depending on who you are with.

    Tailored mats

Could do with a clean I know These are the ones that came with the car, so I assume they are the ones that VW gave the previous owner because she was the original owner.
  23. Looks absolutely stunning man! You should be very proud of it Are you happy to drive it on the road yet or are you still tweaking it?
  24. It's not quick, and it's certainly not clever, it's the lean green not so pretty machine! Definitely a true commuters car, certainly not for showing off Especially compared to some of the pictures in this thread lol!! I assume it was the base model when Lupo's were available to purchase. Completely OEM exterior, haven't even got alloys (would void my insurance). Almost OEM interior, replaced tape deck with a in-dash sat nav a while back. Drives great! Certainly not fast, but I'm piling the miles on it and it never misses a beat. Sounds a lot sweeter than plenty of newer cars too! Not like a bag of nuts and bolts. Maybe when this years insurance is up, I'll price up putting on some alloys, if I don't go for an SDI which I'm very tempted by at the moment, just for the MPG. No Electric Windows, No Central Locking, No Alloy Wheels, But it does have a cigarette lighter socket!!! The screen doesn't usually look that white, the flash screwed that picture up lol!!
  25. Lol, Scotty, there's no way you are going to be able to justify assault because someone flipped you the **** sign, surely?
