Tried repairing it with a kit, but there's no breaks in the element. It's as if they have faded though, perhaps a sticker was harshly removed. Not cool. Oh well, I bought a full tailgate from a scrappy which obviously comes with: Rear heated window Third brake light Central locking unit Rear wiper Rear wiper motor + water jet Plus of course the actual tailgate lol. £20 Don't think you can get them much cheaper.

I've heard this too, and I've seen evidence that it's been done on a Polo SDI too. However not on a Lupo 1.0 and 1.4S. Dont they share the same ECU as the SDI?

I'm not sure I'd have it myself, it was more just a curiosity thing. It's known that it can't be done on a 1.0 and a GTi and probably a 1.4S but I've not seen a single post about whether it is possible on an SDi.

Is the gearbox a common issue on GTi's? Certainly are on 1.0 but didn't know this about GTi's?

So we know that cruise control works on a TDi, and we know it doesn't work on a 1.0 or 1.4S, however nowhere on this site does it say whether it would work on an SDi. I google'd it and found very conflicting results. Apparently Polo SDi's can have it retrofitted very easily it seems (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/archive/index.php/t-119687.html?s=3f0bfbf97ba7fd10e49330446ee0d82c) but I've read on other sites only PD engines support cruise control due to the ECU from this era. My own intuition would say as the SDI is a non-PD engine, a NA with a similar ECU to the 1.4S right? Surely no cruise control? Additionally, as it's been established that the 1.0, 1.4S And GTi doesn't support cruise control, so maybe this should be added to the 'How To', although it says TDi, the same method would work IF it was supported.

I'm with one of the strictest insurers around. They despise mods, internal or external and they especially don't like young boy racers who add their shitty tail pipe trims on. I'll let you guess who. I phoned them up to tell them about my new internal sat-nav, entertainment system, and the guy quickly responded "yeah yeah that's fine you have up to thousand pounds audio entertainment cover as standard, you don't need to declare that". So yes, £1000 would easily cover a good head unit, and boot build and I WOULDN'T need to declare that. So it's not bad advice at all, it just differs to your experience or perhaps how sky insurance deals with their customers. As for a de-badge and stickers (as pointed out by loepan and Pete), I've often viewed second hand cars that have been de-badged, fully intent on buying them. What do I tell my insurance company? I didn't de-badge it and even if I declared it, what could they say? Put the badge back on? How? I don't own the badge now do I? It seems very pedantic to expect such non-intrusive mods be declared. A massive spoiler and bodykit... now that's different.

Why out of curiosity? Also, are the remaining elements getting hotter? I've noticed that hard ice on the rear windscreen is melting much faster than my old Lupo! Albeit in the places that are working.

Hey, I noticed today that the bottom 5 strips of my rear heated window don't work. I've checked for cracks or breaks in the element and there are none. Is this just one to take on the chin or can this actually be fixed? Thanks
