Original gearbox & pedal box at 75k

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

im going to view and possibly buy a 2004 Arosa S 1.0 this weekend, the thing that worries me is after looking at all the buying advice etc and common problems, I asked the owner if the pedal box or gearbox has been replaced and he said no.

Should I still buy it if they're both in good working condition now? I really don't wanna have to pay out for either of those in the first year of owning it, second year I wouldn't mind so much.

It's fairly easy to tell if the box is ok... Check the gearchanges when it's cold going up and down through the gears. They should engage with fingertip effort, and no forcing, especially 1 to 2 and then back again, 2 to 1. The pedals are not that big a deal- only if they have 'gone'. The clutch pedal should be level with the brake, or maybe very slightly low. Seriously different means theres a problem... But it still might be only the pedal box unit. Pedal boxes are cheaper than gearboxes. Or it might be fine! As skezza said, with any used car its a gamble- might be worth having a local club lupo person on hand to help you check it out. We're a friendly lot!
