r0ssi_tdi
After filling up the Arosa last night i drove home and when i pulled up i realised the ABS light was on. So, drove straight back out again and surprise surprise, the ABS is no longer working. Is this a specialist job to get the car looked at, or can i sort it myself?Thinking il go and get it diagnosed if its tricky then just buy the parts myself. I wonder if this has anything to do with the light thud ive been getting from the front right wheel on every rotation...
Rich
Read the codes.Fix the fault.Clear the codes.Done.
Skezza
I might be completely wrong on this, and no doubt Rich (having already commented on this thread) will do his utmost to make me look a prat .... but I was told previously that most common causes of ABS light coming on were:ABS Sensors not reading the same speed (need to find out which has broken then replace, it may tell you when you scan though) or has failed altogether.Low Brake FluidWorn wheel bearings can damage sensor apparently. Not 100% on this one. There may be more, so it's worth getting it scanned asap, although in the short-term it might be worth trying to do an emergency stop or something, perhaps at 30 or 40 and seeing if it goes out. I assume your brake servo's are still working right? I don't know if the computer automatically disables ABS if a fault code is logged you see... r0ssi_tdi
Thanks for the replies chaps. I've got an OBD fault reader that I used to use on my Clio, will that work? If so where do I plug it in on an Arosa?

Skezza
I'm in Stoke. No reason why it shouldn't work although there is such a thing as an ABS Scanner, I don't know if they're any different to a normal OBD2 scanner though. jon_273
The generic OBD2 scanner he used probably only reads the engine controller. The ABS fault lives in the ABS controller so you need something that can read that.
r0ssi_tdi
Ah ok... Any recommendations on where to get it looked at? I'm based in Warwickshire... I hear Stealth racing in southam have a good reputation?
jon_273
They should be a good starting point. And you can get it remapped while you're there!
r0ssi_tdi
Haha! I like your thinking mate ;-)
Skezza
Ahh, that makes sense. I use a VAGCOM for any major diagnostic work. That scans ABS controller, air bag controller, pretty much everything.
