Lupo gti water temp

Recommended Posts

Hi, after some advice. My gti takes about 5 minutes or a few miles to reach 90 on the temp gauge, but recently the fan has started kicking in at 90. I only do short journeys 5 miles each way to and from work. My coolant level is at maximum and level has not changed since buying car in January, its a good clean pink colour and not appearing oily. There is some white gunk under the oil filler cap but the oil on dipstick is fine, but have read it does not mean head gasket, plus it only seems to put out white smoke when warming up, much like plenty of other cars I see on the road. Engine is really warm after short journeys when I open the bonnet.

I am going to clean out the gunk from oil filler cap and neck before driving to Stanford Hall on Sunday to give the car a good run. Is it head gasket or am I just worrying?

As defcon says, it's fine, if you ain't losing water, your gasket is fine, the emulsification in your cap is due to these short journeys, by the time it gets up to temperature you're turning it off again, give your breather pipes a good looking at too as its not uncommon for them to get full if the same sludge, and as you say, a good long blast won't hurt.
