  1. A mate bought his box of tricks round, plugged it in and seems its a misfire on cylinder 1. 4 new spark plugs put in and it seems problem solved, if that's all it then it's nice cheap fix. Makes you wonder what some garages check/replace on a service
  2. Started the car for the first time in 2 weeks and it started but felt lumpy. Pulled off the drive and headed down the road, got to just under 3000rpm and engine check light came on. Drove round the block and home, seemed really under powered. Came to put the car back on the drive later today, light comes straight on and stays on, lacks power and sounds a bit 'tappy'. Manual says exhaust emission warning. Anyone else had this? Just want an idea of what it might be before I decide to go to main stealer or just my local garage. Thanks in advance Mark
  3. It is more of an air cooled show, I am going for breakfast and to pick up a few bits for my bay, try ultimate dubs at telford, more water cooled show
  4. Thanks Rich, it's a dash changer so hopefully nice and simple
  5. Hi, I have been offered a complete unit, tape/radio and 6 cd changer from a 1998 Golf, would this fit straight in my Lupo gti in place of the single CD player?
  6. I had never noticed the mileage stay on before, will try and reset service again
  7. Hi, I noticed this afternoon when I parked and took the key out the ignition that the mileage reading stayed shown on the dash, never seen this happen before. It's also showing service, which I have removed before but can't do it this time as the mileage is staying on. Any idea why it's doing this, it's been parked 20 minutes and still on now
  8. Nice Lupo, good colour choice. Love the splitty, we have a late bay. I had a horrible squeal from front passenger wheel on my gti, it turns out it was the dust guard rubbing on the back of the disc
  9. I was chatting to you and your dad when you were leaving, good day, I got sunburn!
  10. Thanks all - defcon5, did you have any problems driving (apart from smell)? I have heard loss of power can occur but I have not noticed anything
  11. We had egg sandwiches but the smell was still there after lunch!, I think it must be cat, can't smell it at exhaust but can in the car. Perfect timing with mot next month. Anyone any idea of cost/availability?
  12. Garage Tuesday then
  13. If there is some then change the battery?
  14. I heard about the sulphur in the battery smelling, how would I know if it was battery overcharging, or is it just buy new battery?
  15. Smell is bad when I first start the car and when I come to a stop in traffic, is it my cat? If so, any idea where and how much I can get a new one? Thanks
  16. In the show and shine at Stanford Hall, and very tidy Green SE. Also Saw a couple of Fantasia Green Lupos in the car park
  17. Thanks, was not sure if engine was warming up too quick
  18. Hi, after some advice. My gti takes about 5 minutes or a few miles to reach 90 on the temp gauge, but recently the fan has started kicking in for short periods whilst stationery at 90. I only do short journeys 5 miles each way to and from work. My coolant level is at maximum and level has not changed since buying car in January, its a good clean pink colour and not appearing oily. There is some white gunk under the oil filler cap but the oil on dipstick is fine, but have read it does not mean head gasket, plus it only seems to put out white smoke when warming up, much like plenty of other cars I see on the road. Engine is really warm after short journeys when I open the bonnet. I am going to clean out the gunk from oil filler cap and neck before driving to Stanford Hall on Sunday to give the car a good run. Could it be head gasket or am I just worrying?

  20. We are going in the lupo for the day on Sunday
  21. Interesting, maybe he is trying to make a claim from the company
  22. Thanks Pete, it's all come about as one of our drivers had a problem with his z4, it would not start and BMW have told him its dust in the starter motor, we even get dust in the portacabin on bad days so it might need a weekly blow out of the engine bay along with the Friday afternoon jet wash
  23. I need a bit of advice, I work in a transport yard that is not concreted but just earth, so muddy when wet and dusty when dry. As we have trucks in and out all day they send a covering of dust over everything. I opened the bonnet on the lupo today and was amazed by the amount of dust. I don't want to pressure wash the engine bay as I am worried about water and electrics, but I do have the use of an air compressor, could I do any damage blowing the dust out with compressed air instead of using water? I think the compressor runs at 150psi Thanks

    Oil/service

Thanks matt123roll, will knock the symbol off later today
  25. Had a message on the dash yesterday oil and service, this was displayed on the odometer display. 'Oil' stays on for a few seconds after turning ignition on then the speedo reading is displayed and 'service' stays displayed. The red oil can is not lit on the dash and oil level seems fine on dip stick. Car is getting a service this week so no problems with that, does the 'oil' just display to inform oil change required or is it something else? Thanks in advance, Mark
