Rocker cover gasket replacement

Recommended Posts

I ordered a rocker cover gasket thinking it would be an actual gasket but it turned up and its in a tube... Am I right in thinking I remove the old gasket, clean the surface then apply the sealant and refit as normal and wipe away any excess? Also do I use the whole tube?

The 16v engines use a bright green sealant rather than a gasket to seal the camshaft housing to the cylinder head. You will need to clean off the old sealant carefully, then apply a thin, uniform bead around the edges (including around the spark plug holes) and then tighten the camshaft housing back down again. I think I have a picture somewhere of one of the techs here applying it, I'll post it if I can find it!
