Bought BlackBeast Jnr last weekend:

2003 Lupo SE 1.0 50bhp with 111k miles on the clock.

Bought the car with the following faults:

Heater blowers only working on #4 setting

Both doors clicking when opening/closing

Rust on the tailgate handle

Check engine light on

A new resistor pack has sorted the heaters out a treat (£20), a 2nd hand tailgate handle in black has been purchased (£20) but yet to be fitted, and I've deleted the fast idle code that brought the check engine light (free) which hasn't come back on and the idle seems to have settled at 850rpm.

Replaced the VW Beta headunit with a Sony bluetooth model (free), I can now listen to Spotify and call hands free.

Going to wait ordering the door check straps for both doors until I know exactly what service parts I need to purchase. Haven't been under the bonnet yet to give everything the once over.

As far as other changes, I might do the standard cheap ones as and when I have time:

Replace the side repeaters with smoked/black versions if I can find a decent set

If I do the above I'll also lamin-x the front indicators

Take apart the headlights and paint the chrome ring

Paint the front/rear VW badge black

Remove the Lupo badges from the boot

Remove side bump strips

Shark fin aerial

It has cheapy tyres all round, so might invest in some decent all season Vredestein tyres before the winter weather properly sets in.

As above nice base to work from and the right idea for cheap mods.. But dont paint the badges black, it looks terrible on a black car. Will look much cleaner with the silver badges. Gun metal grey would work much better in my opinion if you have your heart set on changing them.

Finally had time to change the spark plugs from bosch to ngk. Also changed the ht leads to a set of Bosch ones, the old ones left what looked like grease all over the ends of the spark plugs, no idea if someone packed grease in them or if they do that over time due to the heat? There was a little corrosion on the inside ports of the ignition coil, so if i do have more idling issues i know what will need changing.

I ended up changing the indicator/wiper stalks too, which took up most of my time as i couldn't remove the airbag, but managed in the end.

Oil change next with some Fuchs 10w40 and a replacement brake light switch.

Should be able to pass its mot at the end of February with all of that done :)

Update time, MOT was due today, and the results were:-

It failed on Nearside headlamp aim too low and Offside headlamp aim too low and too far to the left. A quick adjustment and they are all sorted and it now has full years MOT :)

Advisories were:-

Brake load sensing valve linkage stiff

Nearside rear coil spring corroded

Offside rear coil spring corroded

Undertrays fitted obscuring some underside components

Engine covers fitted obscuring some components in the engine bay

I was expecting the headlight adjustment being out, yes the rear springs are rusty but they are the originals so fair play, but come on, what is the point of adding undertray and engine cover obscuring the view of the tester, they are at the end of the day original equipment lol

Brake load sensing valve linkage, where is it and is it a case of greasing it up?
