  1. Update time, MOT was due today, and the results were:- It failed on Nearside headlamp aim too low and Offside headlamp aim too low and too far to the left. A quick adjustment and they are all sorted and it now has full years MOT Advisories were:- Brake load sensing valve linkage stiff Nearside rear coil spring corroded Offside rear coil spring corroded Undertrays fitted obscuring some underside components Engine covers fitted obscuring some components in the engine bay I was expecting the headlight adjustment being out, yes the rear springs are rusty but they are the originals so fair play, but come on, what is the point of adding undertray and engine cover obscuring the view of the tester, they are at the end of the day original equipment lol Brake load sensing valve linkage, where is it and is it a case of greasing it up?
  2. Yeah, it was the heater resistor, nice and easy to do yourself, bought mine off ebay for £20 all in.
  3. Brake light switch done and also changed the orange front indicators for chrome ones. Its the little things that make a difference
  4. 1. I had a similar occurence with mine, replaced both stalks and all is fine again.
  5. Finally had time to change the spark plugs from bosch to ngk. Also changed the ht leads to a set of Bosch ones, the old ones left what looked like grease all over the ends of the spark plugs, no idea if someone packed grease in them or if they do that over time due to the heat? There was a little corrosion on the inside ports of the ignition coil, so if i do have more idling issues i know what will need changing. I ended up changing the indicator/wiper stalks too, which took up most of my time as i couldn't remove the airbag, but managed in the end. Oil change next with some Fuchs 10w40 and a replacement brake light switch. Should be able to pass its mot at the end of February with all of that done
  6. Guess I will buy them and find out if they are good enough.
  7. Anyone used them on their Lupo? Think I will buy some off ebay for £40 for the set. Already bought a set of NGK PZFR5D-11 plugs.
  8. Sorry, it was a stupid question, but I bought the car in this condition and wanted confirmation of what it was. Will the stalk be repairable or will it have to be replaced?
  9. Help needed, the wipers work fine on the intermediate setting (pressing the stalk down), the stalk stays in the down position on its own, but for them to be on constantly I have to keep the stalk pressed up, if I let go, the stalk drops to the neutral position and the wipers obviously stop. I have no constant normal speed or fast speed wipers. What could the problem be? Fuse? Relay? Stalk? Motor?
  10. Slight update, black side repeaters are on and a set of Vredestein Quatrac 3 in 185/55/14 has been ordered from mytyres. Still need to give it a service and find out what's causing the idle issues.
  11. Bought BlackBeast Jnr last weekend: 2003 Lupo SE 1.0 50bhp with 111k miles on the clock. Bought the car with the following faults: Heater blowers only working on #4 setting Both doors clicking when opening/closing Rust on the tailgate handle Check engine light on A new resistor pack has sorted the heaters out a treat (£20), a 2nd hand tailgate handle in black has been purchased (£20) but yet to be fitted, and I've deleted the fast idle code that brought the check engine light (free) which hasn't come back on and the idle seems to have settled at 850rpm. Replaced the VW Beta headunit with a Sony bluetooth model (free), I can now listen to Spotify and call hands free. Going to wait ordering the door check straps for both doors until I know exactly what service parts I need to purchase. Haven't been under the bonnet yet to give everything the once over. As far as other changes, I might do the standard cheap ones as and when I have time: Replace the side repeaters with smoked/black versions if I can find a decent set If I do the above I'll also lamin-x the front indicators Take apart the headlights and paint the chrome ring Paint the front/rear VW badge black Remove the Lupo badges from the boot Remove side bump strips Shark fin aerial It has cheapy tyres all round, so might invest in some decent all season Vredestein tyres before the winter weather properly sets in.
  12. Anyone have pictures of these fitted to a black Lupo?
  13. Definitely don't want tacky, which smoked side repeaters would you recommend?
  14. Thinking of using the light smoke lamin-x on the side repeaters to keep the smoked theme from the rear smoked indicators. Anyone done this before or would these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360480665094?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 look better?
  15. Thanks for the tip, will have a good check over the engine on the weekend. I've bought the resistor for the heaters for £17 and will hopefully get a 2nd hand tailgate handle for £20. Check straps will have to be bought from VW, but those will have to wait until I now what parts if any I need for the engine.
  16. Just bought myself a black 2003 Lupo 1.0 SE 50bhp yesterday with 111k miles for £850, really chuffed with it. Looking back through its history, it has had a cambelt and clutch change 10k miles ago and the only MOT advisories for the last 4years have been for tyre tread depth. It does have a few faults, need to replace the door check straps on both sides, resistor for the heaters (only #4 currently works), the tailgate handle is rusty and the main one of concern is that the check engine light was on. I've since read the codes and it came back with high idle speed, deleted it and after popping down to the fuel station it hasn't come back on. The idle speed is a little high, it idles at roughly the same RPM (1000rpm) for when the engine is cold and warm. I think I'll remove the throttle body/anything else I can think of and give everything a good clean up first, then change the coolant temp sensor if its still an issue. Cheers Steve
