polioli
Hi , just bought a Lupo 1.0 E without PAS and I'm wondering which tyres will give me the least heavy steering . The Conti Eco Contact on now are very heavy and wooly (I've had the tracking done).Any suggestions for 155/70 R13's ?(quite a few good tyres aren't done in that size) I'm looking at Goodyear Duragrip or Dunlop Street Response. Qualities I'm after are lightness of steering , low road noise and reasonable grip (in the wet since I live in Wales!), and if they helped soak up the potholes rather than transmitting the bumps that would be nice.Any help much appreciated. jamiea7x
The reason they're hard to turn is that they grip the road , so what your asking is for them not to grip the road so the steerings lighter but grip the road to be safe. A complete oxymoron

Silver!
Any tyres which boast about giving you more MPG usually have a harder compound so in theory should be easier to turn.Make sure you are moving when turning your steering, even if it is just a tiny bit, makes it a lot easier.People who turn their wheels static, especially those with power steering, are morons as it creates flat spots on the tyres. And yes; I am a moron sometimes. Defcon5
Something with very stiff sidewalls will also help. What PSI are your tyres at now?
polioli
It's not just me , this is a review I found that echoes my experience -"These EcoContact3's (£214 fitted tracked and balanced for 4) are extremely quiet and stable, with minimal road noise which is particularly impressive on newly dressed, poor or concrete surfaces. The car feels most stable on these tyres and tracks dead ahead without wandering, but the pay-off is the awfully vague steering feel and reluctance to turn in on our twisty roads, with the dead centre steering position returning strongly. This makes our rural roads less enjoyable than on any other set I have tried. A spirited drive results in vague cornering, running wide due to very slow turn in and mildly achey wrists from fighting the dead centre return."I don't think all tyres are equal in this respect . I've no desire to sacrifice safety for lightness in steering , but it stands to reason that there will be a difference between different tread patterns and compounds , and wondered if anyone had any experience of this to share. I'm using standard pressures. Edited August 16, 2012 by polioli
Silver!
"Eco" tyres are designed to be driven in an Eco friendly style, whereas performance tyres...
