JamesTdi
The gear stick went really floppy in gears and now its struggling to get in 2nd and 5th. The clutch pedal is fine, all level with the rest. Will it be the selector rod and the bush under the gear stick?
davidelliott294
Sounds like it buddy, Dad had a problem with something like this before and it was the selector that was ****ed.
Rich
It won't be the selector, they're seriously hardcore on TDI's.Try selecting at the box using the weight to move it.If all is good, look on youtube for a video on how to reset the selectors.Doesn't sound good though. JamesTdi
I have a Sport, not a TDi. My name is very misleading!Goes into gears fine, just got to align the gear stick in the right slot..Point in the right direction about this video? JamesTdi
Gear selector bushes...
Rich
Oh, it's an 085 box.I bet the stupid bush on one of the selector cables has gone.£49 per cable from VW new or there's a selector on ebay for £20. Noticed earlier whilst looking for ****.Easy to change but an arse at the same time.
Liam-R
Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm having the same issue on my TDi... Except it's first and 3rd... Bloody annoying. It's hard to put in first when I come to a standstill (upto traffic lights or roundabout) takes about 3 times to get it in... And when I'm giving it some right foot it's hard to put in 3rd and grinds into gear but if I'm driving like a granny then it slips in.... Any ideas? Rich
TDI guy, change the box oil, look for shiny bit in the old one and stop giving it death if the box isn't behaving.
Liam-R
Yea I was planning on doing that... Was thinking of giving the selectors a re-align too... Maybe that might help. I don't give it death for the sake of it... My RAF base is on a dual carriage way so I have to accelerate quite quickly or I get death lol... Cheers rich! Rich
if they're slipping in they're not likely to be out of alignment, it's a pretty good system on these boxes.I'd do the fluids soon as poss, see if it makes things easier. Liam-R
Will do, any ideas on which oil to use? Never done gearbox on this before... Used castrol stuff on my charade.
