aramil2003
Alright peopleI'm a new member and you might have heard from me before winging on about a sound system for a GTI (and I appreciate the help some of you have give me.....cheerz).In a nutshell (again) I'm gettin a Lupo GTI and dont want to mess about with it too much. Would it be reasonable to suggest adding a Sub (in the boot) to the existing Gamma system or am I talking sh**?Whats the Gamma system like? How hard would it be to add a sub? (I've heard GTI have power to the boot...)What sub should I get (up to £180)?If I get a sub, would I be let down by the existing speakers? Please, please, please feel free to post any comments, suggestions, ideas you have as I'll really appreciate the slightest bit of help!!Tigz mate, type below... Tigz™
QUOTE(aramil2003)Tigz mate, type below... Look at that for a morning welcome heheAlright then buddy.QUOTE(aramil2003)How hard would it be to add a sub? (I've heard GTI have power to the boot...) Sub in the GTi boot is straight forward enough, as you say the battory is located in the boot, so the only cables you need to run down the car are your RCAs and remote turn on cable.QUOTE(aramil2003)Whats the Gamma system like? The Gamma headunit has no `pre-outs` as such. But you can get an adaptor to hook up to the h/u to convert into RCAs (havn't got a link for it but i'll find it later today) All you will need is an amp to power the sub.So.Few questions for you.How much can you spend altogether for the sub and amp? What music do you listen to?How much space do you not want to lose?QUOTE(aramil2003)If I get a sub, would I be let down by the existing speakers? Depends how good an ear you have.Me personally, I think with the standard speakers and a small amp the GTi system sounds lush. Its a shame you cant filter the componts to cut out the base but if you find you want more of an improvment you can always get yourself another amp at a later date to power the components. aramil2003
Ok mate...I was looking to spend upto £170/£180 for the amp and box. I've been looking at some active boxes which look appealing because of the `all-in`-one unit factor.http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...06cc818d89ece0ehttp://www.`motor-world`.co.uk/kro...hp?prod_id=7932http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...06cc818d89ece0eCheap and nasty or value for money?I don't want to loose too much of the boot space so I was thinking of maybe an 8" or 10" sub. What do you think?Oh yeah, I also listen to `hip-hop` & rock.....Cheers bud.
Tigz™
Wll anyone of them will be fine for rock, as theres no real low stuff to speak of.Ive never heard, nor do I know anyone with the Pionner so I cant really comment. Pionner do normally make good quality budget gear though so Id expect it to be half desent.I despise Vibe subs, but for the money, they dont look bad, and a couple of memebers have them and are very happy with it.The JBL...hmmm...I hate them (please dont take offence to this by the way, Im just very fussy)But two things stop me being negitive about it.1. I know a dude, who didnt want to stick in his RE into his run around Corsa so bought one of these to put him on till he could get a better car. He said it was wicked. Then his car got broken into :shock:2. I once went to a car audio meet and watched someone put 2.4kw rms of pure clipped power through one, it took over 5 mins for it to die.Pretty strong for what they are.Got the pics somewhere...If your not bothered about loads of power, just a nice sound I can get you a 8" Sony sub with built in amp.It was mine about 2 years back. Cost me £200ish.Sold it my mate about a month later when I had the cash to start my system.Hes never fitted it, been sat in his garage ever since. Was nice and compact and is a piece of piss to wire up/use.If your just after something simple, small and cheap this could be for you.Im sure I can get it you for £50.Like I say, its only a few weeks old.Only me thats ever used it.Sony 8" Active Sub

one litre wonder ;)
as much as tigz said , he hates Vibe , but John and my self have both got the Vibe CBR10 active and i am more than happy with it , that as well as when u have the windows and doors closed u can heardly hear it so u dont sound like ur typical corsa driving bamp pot with the THUD THUD THUD of a sub . even with a window down it still aint that loud outside , i got it cause of the price and the way the amp was built into it

Only used for a couple of weeks before i sold my polo.Thats what Id be looking at if I was you mate. You'd be better going for better quality used gear than 'not bad' new stuff.I know someone who is selling a Kenwood PS 501 for £80This will give you 1x 150W RMS for a sub and 2x 75W RMS for some components.Take a look HereThen you could get yourself something like ThisMake your self a 1cuft ported box and this would sound mint. Not a bad system for £140. Dare
Its £220 for the MTX amp and rockford 12" (a proper bargain!!) I defy you to get better quality for that price. (bearing in mind the mtx amp is around £550 in Sextons)
