Losing coolant

Recommended Posts

Mechanically I'm a complete noob, I lose coolant over a couple of weeks, and by browsing about it seems as though my head gasket is on it's way out?

If it is, any chance of letting me know what I need to buy to get it fixed? and rough priced? ;/

I'd imagine you probably have a coolant leak rather than a head gasket problem.

Is the exhaust particularly smoky when it's warmed up fully?

Can you see any mayonnaise like residue on the dipstick/oil cap?

Can you see any oil in the coolant reservoir?

If the answer to all of those is no then it's definitely not the head gasket!

Thats some reassurance then :)

Checked the pipes earlier but couldn't find anything, but I'd MUCH rather it be a leak :D

I'll get it checked in the week, cheers :)

As said, as long as the oil is clean and it's running fine, with no excessive ammounts of white smoke, i wouldnt worry about it too much.

It'll probably be a perished gasket or a a loose jubilee clip. GIve it a check over andd see what you can find.

Depending on how well you wish to look after it, you could stick some K-Seal in it to help prevent the leak. Not ideal, but it does work.
