Rudaz Posted November 10, 2010 Report Share Posted November 10, 2010 went to tps to order a new thermal switch today with my chassis number and they told me there are 2? one being a normal thermal switch p/n 867 959 481 and one being a 3pin duel thermo-switch p/n 1h0 959 481 b can any one tell me which one i need? i have a gti...oh and how do i replace it Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
lupogtiboy Posted November 10, 2010 Report Share Posted November 10, 2010 (edited) The switch itself is located on the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side, by the lower rad hose. To see how many pins it has, just look to see how many wires go into the plug. I'm pretty sure that GTI's have two-speed fans anyway, so should be the 3 pin variant (1H0 959 481 B ). The switch has a large built-in nut (24mm iirc) that you undo like a wheelbolt. Make sure you also buy the seal that goes behind it (N 043 808 3) or it will leak!
